Job Summary:
The Tile Shop Technician is primarily responsible for pouring, assembling, and disassembling tile molds in a manufacturing environment. This role supports daily tile shop operations through safe, efficient mold preparation and handling. As business needs require, the technician will also assist with refractory installation and repair work at customer sites or internal facilities. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, and the ability to perform physically demanding work in industrial environments.
Primary Responsibilities:
Pour, assemble, and disassemble tile moldsOperate hand and power tools including impact wrenches, grinders, sanding tools, and tile sanding rocksPrepare molds for production, including cleaning, inspection, and minor repairsAssist with handling and movement of molds and materials within the tile shopFollow work instructions and complete assigned tasks to meet production deadlinesMaintain a clean, organized, and safe tile shop work areaPerform basic preventive maintenance on tools and tile shop equipmentMaintain regular and reliable attendance
Secondary Responsibilities:
Assist with refractory lining, relining, and repair of furnaces, ladles, tundishes, and related equipmentSupport refractory installation methods including bricklaying, pouring, ramming, pumping, gunite, ceramic fiber, and firebrick installationAssist with cleaning and preparing equipment for refractory repair and post-mortem tear outsOperate refractory-related tools and equipment, including brick saws and material handling equipmentSupport preventive maintenance, inventory tracking, and documentation related to refractory tools and materials
Qualifications:
Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environmentTile/mold shop experience preferred; refractory experience a plusBasic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learnAbility to safely operate hand and power toolsForklift certification preferred, or equivalent experienceWillingness to work outdoors and at customer sites as needed
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periodsAbility to lift 55–75 poundsFrequent walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and stair climbingAbility to work in environments with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes, airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditionsAbility to wear required PPE, including hearing and respiratory protection
