The role
As a Smallworld GIS Application Developer at Vector, you’ll be part of a collaborative team driving the continuous improvement and development of our GIS Platform and associated applications. You’ll contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation to ongoing maintenance and support. Your work will directly impact how we deliver innovative energy solutions across Auckland and beyond.
On a typical week, you can expect to be:
Developing and enhancing GIS platform applications, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and user experience.
Supporting the business by sharing knowledge of the platform, business processes, and its capabilities.
Providing user assistance and troubleshooting, ensuring our teams can leverage GIS tools effectively.
Documenting business processes, applications, and changes to ensure clarity and compliance.
Collaborating within a wider scrum team, contributing to AWS architecture and deployment practices.
Promoting new technologies and frameworks, and providing technical guidance to the team.
Liaising with third-party support organizations as needed.
You’ll also play a key role in mentoring and growing the team’s capabilities, helping us build a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Who are we looking for?
You’re a passionate technologist with a drive to shape the future of energy. You bring:
Demonstrated experience in the IT industry, ideally with hands-on experience in Smallworld GIS platforms (Smallworld mandatory).
Exposure to other GIS environments a distinct advantage
Strong skills in development and data modelling within GIS environments.
Knowledge of AWS infrastructure and modern information systems capabilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to work with technical and non-technical colleagues across dispersed locations.
A flexible, proactive approach to work, thriving on new challenges and opportunities.
Experience in IT application/infrastructure management, change and problem management.
A commitment to supporting users at all levels, providing clear guidance and troubleshooting.
The ability to mentor others and promote best practices, libraries, and frameworks.
