Your Career

As a key contributor in the Platform Hardware development team, you will be responsible for the complete design cycle of Palo Alto Networks hardware including: specification; component selection; schematic entry; layout oversight; prototype bring-up, debug, and validation testing. The Hardware Engineering team is an interdisciplinary team including: mechanical engineering, signal integrity, PCB layout, and compliance. You will also collaborate cross-functionally with product management, software, operations and quality assurance.

As a member of the hardware engineer - Power design team, you will be working on various power components including the dc/dc, LDO and power switches that are crucial to power our on board devices. You will also be working very closely with the hardware, layout and lab team for on board power supply design, review, characterization and validation.

Your Impact

  • Design & Architecture Support: Assist in the design of power delivery networks (PDN). Provide expert recommendations on component selection and circuit topology.

  • System Validation: Execute comprehensive validation plans using automated test suites to characterize DC/DC converters and power rails.

  • Root Cause Analysis: Troubleshoot complex power system failures, focusing on transient responses, stability, and thermal management.

  • Test Automation: Develop and maintain Python-based scripts to interface with lab equipment for high-throughput data collection.

Qualifications

Your Experience

1. Power Electronics & Analog Design

  • DC/DC Topologies: In-depth knowledge of Buck, Boost, and LDO regulators, including feedback loop stability and efficiency analysis.
  • Passive Component Characterization: Advanced understanding of capacitors (MLCC, Tantalum, Polymer) and inductors, specifically their frequency-dependent characteristics (ESR, ESL) and DC/AC bias effects.
  • Semiconductor Fundamentals: Strong grasp of transistor theory (MOSFETs, BJTs) for switching and linear applications.
  • General Analog: Proficiency in analog circuit fundamentals, including operational amplifiers and sensing circuits.

2. Lab Instrumentation & Measurement

  • Precision Equipment: Expert-level operation of Vector Network Analyzers (VNA), Oscilloscopes, Digital Multimeters (DMM), and Programmable AC/DC Power Supplies.

  • Power Analysis: Hands-on experience with the Keysight N6705 DC Power Analyzer, with specific expertise in using the Arbitrary Waveform Generator (Arb) for power integrity testing.

  • Dynamic Loading: Experience configuring Electronic Loads (E-loads) for transient and steady-state load profiling.

3. Automation & Software

  • Python Programming: Demonstrated ability to write scripts for test automation.

  • Instrument Control: Proficiency in using PyVISA or SCPI commands to communicate with and control lab hardware.

  • Environment Scripting: Experience with Batch files for automated test environment setup and basic sequence execution.

Required Experience

  • Education: B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience: 5+ years in power Integrity validation, hardware lab environments, or power electronics design.

  • Problem Solving: A proven track record of troubleshooting hardware-software interface issues.
