Your Impact on our Mission
Zocdoc’s most important asset is our people. As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll take ideas from inception to reality by rapidly building prototypes, iterating, and releasing them. You’ll oversee changes to the business logic and user interface of the booking flow to improve the patient experience. You’ll also play a key role in evolving the data representation of appointment booking requests to optimize performance, cost, and stability of the booking system. As a Zocdoc’r, you’ll work with a supportive team of great humans who are funny, intellectually curious, and passionate about giving power back to the patient!

Your day to day is…
- Charting the technical course for Zocdoc’s booking platform to improve stability and user experience — drafting technical roadmaps, setting technical priorities, and driving visionary initiatives
- Spearheading bold innovation, whether by employing cutting-edge user experience patterns, exploring emerging data sources, or pioneering architectural strategies that keep Zocdoc ahead of the pack in healthcare tech
- Managing and building complex, multi-page web applications along with the backing APIs and microservices, creating frictionless user experiences and data flows that truly empower both patients and providers to access care and information in real time
- Mentoring fellow engineers, supercharging team throughput through robust coding standards, automated workflows, and a culture that embraces continuous improvement
- Analyzing and decomposing complex product challenges to drive sound design decisions
- Collaborating with our agile team of dedicated and brilliant engineers, product managers, and designers
- Working with cutting-edge GenAI tools and technology
You’ll be successful in this role if you have…
- A proven track record of owning and scaling complex, user-facing platforms, balancing near-term delivery with a long-term technical vision.
- Demonstrated history of solid and well-rounded system design skills, including API design and front-end page architecture
- Bring a strategic mindset, fusing immediate wins with a big-picture roadmap that drives meaningful transformation for your organization
- Lead by example, steering teams toward best-in-class testing, deployment, and observability practices that amplify output and quality
- Strong communication skills that bridge technical and non-technical audiences, aligning product, data science, user experience, and engineering priorities.
- A passion for mentoring engineers, driving best practices in testing, deployment, and maintainability, and elevating team-wide engineering quality.
