Strategy & Operations Associate, New Verticals

The Team

The Growth team is part of the New Verticals Strategy & Operations team and reports into the Director of Growth, Strategy & Operations (New Verticals). We are responsible for shaping the strategy to drive growth and win in the highly competitive on-demand grocery and retail market.

Our work is project-based and growth-focused. Starting from key strategic questions, we use data and analysis to drive the right decisions before supporting execution with cross-functional teams. In addition, the team owns performance management for New Verticals, including target-setting, goals and OKRs, and regular performance reporting through weekly and monthly business reviews.

As such, the team offers a strong balance between high-impact strategic problem solving and seeing the real-world impact of your work. The culture within the New Verticals team is informal, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial. Given the growth of the business and exposure to senior stakeholders, progression in the team can be fast.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Strategy & Operations Manager, New Verticals, you will focus on:

  • Supporting the definition and execution of strategy to drive growth across the New Verticals business.

  • Partnering with business leads on strategic projects focused on unlocking growth, from problem definition through to delivery.

  • Conducting quantitative analysis and modelling to support decision-making and prioritisation

  • Working cross-functionally to help operationalise new initiatives and support execution in a rapidly evolving environment

  • Supporting New Verticals performance management across annual planning, weekly and monthly business reviews, and trading updates. Contributing to the goal-setting and OKRs process by defining targets and tracking P&L performance against plan.

Typical questions you will help answer include:

  • How can we grow New Verticals by increasing the share of platform monthly active users, improving conversion, increasing order frequency, or growing basket sizes?

  • What is the opportunity size for a potential new product feature or initiative?

  • How are we tracking against our objectives for the year, and where are there risks, opportunities, or areas that require escalation or deeper analysis?

Qualities We're Looking For

  • Decisive and influential: You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable forming clear, well-reasoned recommendations in the face of ambiguity. You communicate clearly, build trusted relationships, and have a hands-on mentality when it comes to delivering impact.

  • Analytical and collaborative: You enjoy working with data and translating analysis into insight, while also collaborating with teams such as Product, Commercial, and Marketing. You are comfortable working with financial metrics and models, and have a strong understanding of business performance drivers.

  • Structured: You are able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities at once, bringing structure to complex problems and communicating recommendations clearly and concisely.

  • Performance-focused: You are comfortable coordinating performance reporting and review processes across multiple teams and geographies, helping senior stakeholders clearly understand how the business is performing and where focus is needed.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years experience in management consulting, finance, or at a market-leading organisation; experience in e-commerce, grocery, or a customer-obsessed business is a plus.

  • Strong problem solving skills involving identifying the root causes of problems, assessing risks and impacts, and determining effective solutions.

  • Highly analytical mindset with strong modelling skills, and the ability to break down large data sets and turn them into actionable insights.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience working inside complex, matrixed organisations.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively at all levels of the organisation.

  • London-based with a minimum of three days required in the office.
