The Systems Engineer (JP9101 L2) is responsible for providing systems engineering support to the JP9101 project, contributing to the acquisition and enhancement of the Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System (EDHFCS). The role ensures that capability functional requirements are met throughout the acquisition lifecycle and that engineering activities are delivered in accordance with Defence and IC3SPO governance, standards, and quality frameworks. The Systems Engineer works collaboratively across the JP9101 project team, providing professional engineering advice, maintaining technical assurance, and supporting the ongoing development of engineering capability within the team.
Requirements
What you'll do:
- Participate in JP9101 engineering activities in support of the acquisition and implementation of the EDHFCS capability.
- Provide systems engineering assurance that EDHFCS capability functional requirements are satisfied throughout the acquisition lifecycle.
- Develop, manage, and maintain the JP9101 engineering documentation suite in accordance with project and Defence standards.
- Provide formal engineering advice and technical input across project engineering activities and relevant contractual arrangements.
- Exercise engineering delegations as issued by the IC3SPO Chief Engineer, including identifying, managing, and maintaining technical risks for JP9101.
- Review and provide engineering feedback on contractor deliverables to support effective implementation of the EDHFCS solution.
- Collaborate with the broader JP9101 project team to provide engineering input across all discipline streams, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Coordinate and participate in engineering workshops in collaboration with the JP9101 engineering team.
- Ensure compliance of JP9101 engineering processes with the IC3SPO Quality Management System (QMS).
- Support and assist the JP9101 engineering team with engineering tasks and contribute to the professional development of team members.
- Undertake additional engineering tasks as directed by the EL1 Engineering Manager JP9101 and the Deputy Engineering Manager JP9101 L3.
What You'll Bring:
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with a recognised professional engineering body (e.g. Engineers Australia), or the ability to attain chartered status.
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience working within, the One Defence Capability System (ODCS).
- Experience applying systems engineering principles within complex capability acquisition or delivery environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in leadership or mentoring roles, with the ability to coach and guide teams through technical delivery, strategy, and change.
- Experience working with the ASDEFCON suite and Defence contracting frameworks.
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide sound engineering judgement and advice.
