About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable Tax Manager to join our accounting and tax practice. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage complex client engagements with confidence.

This role will serve as a key leader within the firm—overseeing tax preparation, managing client relationships, resolving IRS matters, and mentoring junior staff. If you have a passion for tax strategy, client service, and team development, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Review

  • Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other entities.
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely filing of all tax deliverables.

Tax Planning & Consulting

  • Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to clients.
  • Develop customized strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize financial outcomes.
  • Research and interpret complex tax issues to support client decisions.

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients.
  • Lead client engagements and ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Assist with special projects and provide proactive guidance throughout the year.

IRS Resolution

  • Manage and resolve IRS and state tax notices, audits, and disputes.
  • Prepare responses, negotiate with taxing authorities, and guide clients through resolution processes.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and train tax staff and senior accountants.
  • Review staff work and provide feedback to support professional development.
  • Assist with workflow planning, workload distribution, and review processes.

Technology & Systems

  • Utilize Lacerte for tax preparation and review.
  • Use Canopy for workflow, client management, and document organization.

Qualifications

  • CPA certification (required)
  • 5–7 years of experience in public accounting or tax management
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Experience with IRS tax resolution and handling client notices/audits
  • Ability to research complex tax issues and develop strategic solutions
  • Leadership experience, including staff supervision and training
  • High level of accuracy, analytical thinking, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Lacerte tax software preferred
  • Experience with Canopy a plus
