The Associate Accountant will support day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and cross-functional initiatives within the Australia entity. This role is ideal for someone with 2–5 years of accounting experience who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth technology and defence environment. You’ll work closely with regional and U.S. finance counterparts to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial management.
What you'll do:
Financial OperationsPerform daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.Assist with payroll processing and coordination with external providers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Australian employment legislation.
Financial Reporting & CompliancePrepare financial reports, schedules, and analysis to support internal reporting and audits.Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards, taxation requirements (BAS, GST, PAYG), and regulatory obligations.Support external auditors and tax consultants by providing required documentation and explanations.
Business SupportPartner with operations, procurement, and program teams to ensure accurate cost tracking and alignment with project budgets.Help implement and refine financial controls, processes, and accounting systems as Shield AI continues to scale in Australia.Contribute to ad-hoc financial analysis and operational improvement initiatives.
Required qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.2–5 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within technology, defence, aerospace, or high-growth environments.Solid understanding of Australian accounting standards (AASB), tax laws, and financial reporting requirements.Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Xero) and strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate with global teams.
Preferred qualifications:
Working toward or completion of CPA/CA qualification (or equivalent).Experience with U.S. GAAP or multinational organisations.Familiarity with defence industry or government contracting compliance (desired but not required).
