We are looking for a candidate to join our Back End Development team as a highly skilled HubSpot Back End Lead, reporting to the Head of Development.
As a lead, you will manage, mentor, and guide a small team of developers while maintaining hands-on architectural responsibilities. You will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining the architecture of solutions on the HubSpot platform, including data migrations, CRM implementations, custom UI extensions, complex workflows, web site development projects and API/systems integrations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—developers, solution architects, consultants, designers, and project managers—to deliver scalable, innovative solutions. Your expertise will guide technical strategy, ensure best practices for HubSpot development, and bridge business requirements with technical execution.
You will spend your time solving technical business problems, scoping and costing projects, designing software solutions, guiding developers, peer reviewing code and coding yourself.

Software Architecture
- Architect & Design: Create scalable, modular HubSpot solutions, ensuring high-quality performance across both frontend and backend.
- Technical Leadership: Lead the development of components and integrations using modern frameworks and best practices.
- Quality & Performance: Conduct code reviews and provide feedback to ensure adherence to standards and performance optimization.
- Innovation & AI: Stay updated on HubSpot features and trends, leveraging AI tools for data migrations, custom integrations, and complex workflows.
- Guidance: Provide technical mentorship to developers, identifying and mitigating technical risks with proactive contingency plans.
Strategic Scoping
- Pre-Sales Expertise: Act as the technical expert in pre-sales, leading client discovery sessions to gather requirements and assess technical feasibility.
- Solution Design: Translate client objectives into detailed technical specifications, implementation plans, and accurate costings.
- SOW Alignment: Draft and validate the backend sections of Statements of Work (SOW) to ensure clarity for both clients and internal delivery teams.
- Smooth Transitions: Manage the handoff from pre-sales to delivery, aligning on solution design, dependencies, and essential knowledge transfer.
Team Management
- People Leadership: Manage a team of developers, providing career development, professional growth support, and regular performance feedback.
- Resource Management: Collaborate with Project and Resource Managers to allocate work based on skills, manage capacity, and meet deadlines.
- Technical Interface: Serve as the primary bridge between your development team and all technical/non-technical stakeholders.
Driving Back End to Success
- Commercial Leadership: Take ownership of delivery KPIs and financial targets, balancing revenue goals with customer success and business best practices.
- Pod Excellence: Design and implement successful Pod structures, establishing routines like stand-ups, resource reviews, and progress tracking.
- Strategic Growth: Partner with Account Directors to identify "land and expand" opportunities and build strong client relationships.
- AI Advocacy: Drive the strategic use of AI within the team to optimize project delivery, internal processes, and innovative customer solutions.
🏗️ To excel in this role, you should have the following
- Relevant qualification in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
- 8+ Years as a Software Engineer
- 2+ years of team leadership or technical lead experience
- Experience in managing, mentoring, and developing technical team members
- Strong team management and delegation skills
- Experience in creating technical briefs and implementation plans for development teams
- Proven track record of successfully leading technical projects and teams
- Ability to balance hands-on technical work with team management responsibilities
- Proven architecture experience in designing end-to-end systems
- Understanding of architectural patterns such as component-based design, state management, and microservices.
- Extensive experience with development tools, build systems, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and the ability to develop, consume, and validate APIs effectively.
- Solid understanding of performance optimization techniques and best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to tackle complex technical challenges across the entire stack.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working effectively with cross-functional teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to gather, interpret, and implement functional and non-functional requirements for scalable, maintainable applications.
- Keeping up-to-date with new technologies, frameworks, and best practices across both frontend and backend development.
- In-depth knowledge of HubSpot’s products, APIs, and platform with a focus on custom extensions and integrations.
- Experience with our primary backend programming languages: Javascript, PHP, SQL, GraphQL
- Relevant libraries: Node.js, Symfony
- Strong background in software architecture and problem solving at an enterprise level
