About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Legal, the Junior Commercial Legal Counsel will assist in managing a broad range of legal matters across Montu UK’s digital health, clinic and pharmacy activities in a way that supports the continued commercial success of the business. The role will work closely with commercial, governance, operations, clinical and pharmacy teams to ensure that contracts, processes and projects are legally robust, compliant and aligned with Montu UK’s mission of delivering safe, effective cannabis-based treatments to patients across the UK.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including vendor and supplier contracts, service agreements, platform and licensing agreements, marketing and sponsorship arrangements, terms and conditions and confidentiality agreements (NDAs).
Provide clear, practical legal advice to internal stakeholders on day-to-day commercial, contractual and regulatory issues, escalating and seeking guidance from senior legal colleagues where appropriate.
Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable UK laws and regulations relevant to Montu UK’s operations, including general contract law, consumer law, advertising and marketing rules, healthcare and pharmacy frameworks, and data protection requirements in collaboration with privacy specialists.
Support cross-functional projects (for example, new service providers, digital platformenhancements or partnerships) by identifying legal risks early and proposing solutions that are both commercially sensible and legally compliant.
Assist with training non-legal colleagues on key legal topics, such as contracting fundamentals, confidentiality, marketing claims and basic regulatory requirements relevant to their roles.
Implementation of legal process efficiencies including leading projects for implementation of systems and processes e.g. contract templates, contract repositories, playbooks, contract lifecycle management; contract approvals and signature; and use of AI tools for research or drafting.
Knowledge, skills & experience
UK-qualified lawyer (solicitor or CILEX) with approximately 1–3 years’ PQE, gained in private practice and/or in-house, with demonstrable experience of commercial contracts.
Strong academic background and sound grounding in core contract law principles, with excellent drafting, negotiation and written communication skills.
Experience working on a mix of commercial agreements in a fast-paced, commercial environment; prior exposure to healthcare, life sciences, digital health, pharmacy or other regulated sectors is advantageous but not essential.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters concurrently, prioritise effectively and deliver high-quality work within agreed timelines in a high-growth, mission-driven environment.
Strong interpersonal skills, with confidence to engage with stakeholders at different levels of seniority, build trusted relationships and communicate legal issues in clear, accessible language.
Commercial mindset, with a pragmatic approach to risk and a genuine interest in Montu UK’s mission to expand access to safe, effective cannabis-based therapies and digital health services in the UK.
Interest in the legal and regulatory landscape relevant to digital health and online services (for example, consumer protection, advertising and marketing standards, data protection and information governance, and healthcare or pharmacy regulations), with willingness to develop deeper expertise in these areas
