About the role:
We’re looking for a knowledgeable, reliable Community Outreach Representative in Chicago, Illinois to help us increase awareness of Hey Jane locally. This is a "boots on the ground" role perfect for a self-starter who knows the neighborhoods of Chicago and enjoys interacting with local business owners and community leaders. Your primary goal is to ensure our presence is felt in the heart of the community—specifically through poster and flyer placement—to help residents access the resources they need.
For this part-time, three-month (with the potential to extend) contracted opportunity, you must be available beginning mid/late-March.
You are:
A Chicago expert: You have familiarity with key neighborhoods throughout Chicago, and can navigate through them on your own.An excellent, informed communicator: You’re comfortable speaking with diverse groups of people in a professional and friendly manner on behalf of organizations, and can report back on these experiences to the Hey Jane team.Reliable and responsible: You’re able to work independently and manage your own schedule, as well as track your progress through Word docs and spreadsheets.Bilingual: Spanish-speaking ability is a plus.Passionate about abortion access: You believe in Hey Jane’s mission, and can confidently speak to the work that we do.
You will:
Distribute flyers and posters: You’ll visit key community spaces to post flyers and posters, securing high-visibility placement. Build relationships within the community: Proactively engage with business owners/managers to explain our services and secure permission to leave materials.Think strategically: Identify the best "bulletin board" spots in the designated areas, and ensure that our materials are visible.Report back weekly: Submit a weekly log of locations visited, including photos of posted materials and notes on community reception or high-traffic opportunities.
