3–5 years of experience in agricultural or commercial lending, credit analysis, portfolio management, or relationship management required. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, or a related field required. Strong understanding of agribusiness operations and financial structures preferred. Experience within the Farm Credit System or a related agricultural credit organization preferred, including familiarity with Farm Credit System borrower rights and loan litigation processes. Professional certifications in credit, lending, or agricultural finance (e.g., CRC, CBA, or equivalent) preferred.
JOB SUMMARY
The Credit Relationship Specialist II - CommAg is responsible for managing a portfolio of complex, high-risk, and criticized commercial agricultural loans that Capital Farm Credit may agent and sell via syndication or participation. The portfolio also includes capital markets relationships to which Capital Farm Credit is not agent but is a syndicate member or participant. The primary focus of this role is to maximize recovery, minimize credit losses, and support borrowers in regaining financial viability through proactive and strategic credit management.
This role involves comprehensive oversight of operating loans, including monitoring draw schedules, budget performance, and the appropriate application of proceeds. Developing and executing complex restructuring strategies tailored to the unique needs of commercial ag borrowers, including forbearance agreements, repayment plans, and innovative credit solutions. Assist in the development and execution of liquidation strategies, foreclosure proceedings, and bankruptcy case management in close coordination with legal counsel, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and internal policy requirements.
Working collaboratively with lending teams, the Credit Relationship Manager II - CommAg evaluates borrower viability and leads efforts to return accounts to performing status. Provides expert guidance to credit analysts and relationship managers on loan terms, pricing, documentation, and risk mitigation strategies, particularly for loans exhibiting significant or emerging credit weaknesses.
In addition to managing CRG-assigned loans, also serves as a specialized resource for criticized volume not yet assigned to CRG. They act as a key influencer with borrowers and internal stakeholders, helping to stabilize accounts approaching distress status. May serve as the primary customer contact or work behind the scenes with the lending team to develop the appropriate approach. Their responsibilities include establishing and maintaining sound credit and loan administration practices, ensuring proper loan structure, pricing, and terms to manage risk effectively.
The Credit Relationship Manager II - CommAg also serves as the primary compliance officer on assigned loans, ensuring adherence to settlement laws, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures. They monitor loan performance, manage follow-up actions, and ensure timely, efficient service to internal and external stakeholders. The officer is responsible for gathering and analyzing customer financial data—including balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, and collateral valuations—and preparing detailed reports on loan performance, asset status, and recovery progress.
As a subject matter expert in commercial and capital markets lending, distressed borrower management, and complex agribusiness operations, the CRG Relationship Officer operates with minimal oversight. They demonstrate strong creativity, strategic thinking, and sound judgment in managing their portfolio and play a critical role in protecting the organization’s financial interests while supporting long-term borrower success.
