The position of Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all facilities at the REAL District. The Custodian supports all facilities by ensuring they are cleaned to REAL’s standards to provide a healthy and safe environment for all guests. This role will be required to maintain the interior and exterior of the buildings and their surrounding grounds which includes following cleaning processes and procedures outlined for each area or facility
- Maintains the interior and exterior of the buildings and their surrounding grounds.
- Keeps buildings and grounds in clean and orderly condition.
- Performs heavy cleaning duties including, but not limited to cleaning floors, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish.
- Ensures janitorial rooms are clean and stocked at the end of each shift.
Performs other duties as required.
Wage: $15.80 - $17.16
Requirements

Education and Experience
Successful completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of WHMIS program and Occupational Health and Safety Standards preferred.
- Knowledge/previous experience working with janitorial procedures and machinery preferred.
- Must be able to follow directions and work with minimum supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to provide strong customer service to internal and external customers.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.
- Strong time-management skills and a proven track record of delivering quality results, with attention to detail.
Working Environment and Physical Demands
- Hours may vary based on operation requirements.
- Required to work in a variety of weather conditions and environments.
- Work on slippery and uneven surfaces.
- Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, climbing stairs, and kneeling.
- Must be able to remain standing and walking for their entire shift.
- Safe operation of tools and equipment.
- Manual dexterity.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs
Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for the duration of employment.
Note that this position is an in-scope position under the RWDSU Collective Agreement.
