Role: Data Analyst with Guidewire PolicyCenter
Location: Erie, PA (Remote)
Must have working experience on Guidewire PolicyCenter.
Experience:
Overall, 12 of IT experience with 8+ years of experience working as a Data Analyst and 5+ years of experience working on Guidewire application.
Updated Responsibilities (Associate – PolicyCenter Data & Reporting)
1) Schema, Data Model & Mapping Validation
- Validate database schemas and data models supporting Guidewire PolicyCenter reporting and downstream consumption (ODS/DWH/reporting marts).
- Perform source-to-target validation for PolicyCenter entities to reporting tables, ensuring correct field mappings, transformations, and business rules.
- Review and validate data dictionaries, entity relationships, and model assumptions (grain, keys, effective dating approach, history handling).
2) SSIS Extract & ETL Validation Support
- Validate SSIS extract packages and feed outputs for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness:
- Row counts, key integrity, delta/incremental logic, and load schedules
- Error handling, rejects, and reconciliation totals
- Execute ETL smoke tests after code releases and configuration/product model changes to ensure no downstream data regressions.
- Collaborate with ETL developers to troubleshoot failures by identifying the break point (source query, transformation, staging, load, or reporting layer).
3) Deep PolicyCenter Table & Data Domain Expertise
- Demonstrate deep understanding of PolicyCenter table structures and key relationships, including effective-dated patterns and core entities (e.g., Account/Policy/PolicyPeriod/Job and related risk, coverage, and transaction tables).
- Support interpretation of policy transaction behaviour in data, including New Business, Renewal, Endorsement, Cancellation, Reinstatement, and Rewrite scenarios.
- Ensure accurate representation of coverages, modifiers, and risk attributes in extracts and reporting datasets.
4) Developer Enablement (SQL Query Support)
- Assist developers and analysts by providing guidance and examples for writing optimized SQL queries to retrieve records by:
- Coverage selection (coverage patterns/terms, limits/deductibles, endorsements)
- Effective dates / as-of dates (policy period effective windows, transaction effective dates)
- Transaction/job types and policy status conditions
- Help teams correctly interpret data grain (policy vs policy period vs job vs coverage/risk row) to avoid double-counting and misreporting.
- Recommend indexing/filters and query patterns to improve performance for high-volume reporting and extracts.
5) Data Quality, Reconciliation & Controls
- Define and execute recurring data quality checks:
- Completeness (required fields populated)
- Valid values (domain/code set adherence)
- Referential integrity (key relationships)
- Duplicate detection and outlier checks
- Reconcile totals across layers (PolicyCenter source → SSIS staging → target reporting tables) for:
- Policy counts, transaction counts, exposures, and premium totals
- Document findings and partner with Guidewire/config/integration teams to resolve data defects.
6) Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain and update documentation such as:
- Table relationship guides, join paths, and common query patterns
- Data lineage notes and reconciliation playbooks
- Known data caveats (effective-dated nuances, cancellation/rewrite handling, quote vs issued distinctions)
- Contribute to a reusable library of SQL snippets and validation checklists for the team.
Skills / Qualifications to Add (Aligned to the Above)
Use this as an add-on under “Required Skills” or “Qualifications”:
Required
- Strong SQL skills (multi-table joins, CTEs, window functions; ability to debug logic and performance).
- Experience validating SSIS extracts / ETL outputs (counts, deltas, reconciliation, error triage).
- Working knowledge of data modeling (keys, grain, dimensions/facts, history/effective-dated concepts).
- Hands-on exposure to Guidewire PolicyCenter data and ability to navigate PolicyCenter tables for reporting.
Preferred (Nice-to-have)
- Familiarity with downstream reporting layers (ODS/DWH/marts) and BI tools (SSRS/Power BI/Tableau).
- Experience creating data validation scripts and repeatable reconciliation controls.
- Understanding of P&C policy lifecycle and transaction types.
