Yubo is the Social Discovery app to make new friends and hang out online. By eliminating likes and follows, we empower our users to create genuine connections and show up as their true selves.
We've pioneered a new way for Gen Z to socialize online, and with millions of active users, our goal is to redefine how we connect today and tomorrow.
Our team is international, multicultural and deeply committed to its mission. As the leading platform to socialize online, we have a special responsibility to build a safe digital space for our community. Safety is embedded in our DNA, and our proactive approach focuses on user protection, support, and education. We also work closely with the broader technology industry to share our knowledge and NGOs create industry-leading child protection standards.
Join us in this exciting journey and help us shape the future of social interactions!
As Yubo continues to scale, our Platform Engineering scope has significantly expanded and now includes Data Engineering, ML Engineering, MLOps, Backend Platform, Infrastructure and Security.
Data is not a support function, it’s a core production system, critical for product decisions, analytics, moderation, and ML capabilities.
Today, the lack of a dedicated management layer on the Data & ML Platform creates a leadership bottleneck
We are therefore looking for a Data Platform Manager to join our Platform Engineering department, reporting directly to Mikael (Head of Platform Engineering)
Your role?
Take ownership of the Data & ML Platform perimeter, lead the Data Engineering team (and progressively ML Engineering), and build the foundations for a resilient, scalable, production-grade data ecosystem that supports long-term product growth.
This is a strategic leadership position combining technical depth, execution discipline, and organizational structuring.
Define clear ownership boundaries between Product Engineering and Platform Engineering.
Shape and drive the operational roadmap for Data & ML systems.
Ensure scalability supports long-term product and ML expansion.
Balance innovation, reliability, cost-efficiency, and delivery velocity
Establish visibility on delivery health through structured KPIs (pipeline reliability, deployment cadence, incident rate, cost trends).
Oversee resilience and health of data pipelines and ML production systems.
Promote engineering guardrails protecting quality, performance, and security at scale
Clarify interfaces with Product Engineering and manage analytics collaboration
Directly manage the Data Engineering team.
Progressively integrate ML Engineers into a unified Data & ML Platform structure
Drive hiring strategy and workforce planning.
Elevate team maturity in ownership, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.
Protect Data Engineers from excessive context switching and improve decision velocity
Data Platform Responsibilities and Scope
The Data Platform team manages Yubo's extensive data ecosystem, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security across all data initiatives.
Data Engineering: Manages a complex infrastructure (approx. 50 databases, 465 collections) and hundreds of data pipelines, handling extreme loads (up to 200,000 QPS peaks).
ML Engineering & MLOps: Focuses on the full lifecycle of ML systems: development, low-latency serving, comprehensive monitoring, and robust MLOps workflows (automated training/deployment).
Backend Platform & Infrastructure: Manages the foundational production environment, including:
Highly-distributed, cloud-native infrastructure at scale.
Production serving and real-time monitoring.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with tools like Terraform/Ansible.
Owning the CI/CD pipelines for rapid, reliable software delivery.
Cybersecurity (AI Augmented): Implements a proactive security stack, leveraging ML/AI for enhanced threat detection and automated response.
Data Fundamentals & Technical Depth: Requires a deep understanding of distributed systems, the CAP Theorem, and expert-level SQL & advanced data modeling (Normalization, Indexing, Partitioning, Sharding).
Required Operating Systems: macOS, Linux (required).
You have 8+ years of experience, including 3–4+ years as an Engineering Manager.
You have directly managed at least 3 engineers.
You are a former Data Engineer / Data Ops / DBA with strong hands-on technical credibility.
You have strong knowledge of data fundamentals (CAP theorem, distributed trade-offs, relational vs transactional DBs).
You are comfortable designing large-scale, near-real-time data pipelines.
You are cost-aware and understand infrastructure trade-offs.
You demonstrate structured communication and decision-making under ambiguity.
You can manage through influence, not micro-management.
You remain calm under pressure and approach systems with intellectual humility.
You build credibility through deep understanding before driving transformation.
Define and track platform-level KPIs aligned with business impact.
Stabilize execution frameworks across Data and ML teams.
Formalize the operating model between Platform and Product Engineering.
Identify medium-term scalability risks and define mitigation roadmaps.
Reduce leadership bottlenecks and improve decision velocity on Data topics.
Strengthen the long-term foundations of Yubo’s production-grade data ecosystem.
