Software Developer - Switching Software

Position Summary

We are seeking a Software engineer to join our Switching Software development team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on enterprise-grade networking software, learn from experienced engineers, and contribute to products used by businesses worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain switching software components for NETGEAR’s managed and unmanaged switch products
- Implement network protocols including STP, VLAN, LACP, and Layer 2/3 switching features
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in C/C++ and Python
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, product managers, and QA teams
- Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices
- Debug and troubleshoot software issues in both development and production environments
- Contribute to software architecture discussions and design reviews
- Support integration testing and work closely with QA teams during product development cycles

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
- 2 - 5 years of Strong programming skills in C/C++ and familiarity with Python
- Understanding of computer networks, TCP/IP, and basic networking concepts
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and command-line tools
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle and version control systems (Git)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Eagerness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements

Preferred Qualifications

- Coursework or projects involving network programming or embedded systems
- Understanding of Ethernet, switching, and routing protocols
- Experience with debugging tools like GDB, Valgrind, or similar
- Knowledge of software testing methodologies
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development processes
- Previous internship experience in software development
