Engineering Manager
Role Overview
As the Engineering Manager – Order Management System (OMS), you will lead the design, development, and evolution of a large-scale, distributed eCommerce platform that processes high transaction volumes and complex integrations. You’ll guide a full-stack engineering team, ensure system scalability and resilience, and foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
-
Own the full product lifecycle — from conceptualization, architecture, and design to implementation, deployment, and maintenance of OMS and its integrations.
-
Lead and mentor a team of 10+ engineers, driving delivery excellence and technical growth across backend and frontend development streams.
-
Architect and scale distributed systems capable of handling large volumes of orders, inventory updates, and third-party data exchanges.
-
Drive eCommerce integration strategy, including marketplaces, ERPs, WMS, payment gateways, and 3PL systems, ensuring robust data synchronization.
-
Take technical ownership of backend and frontend components — from database schema and API design to UI architecture and performance optimization.
-
Establish and enforce engineering best practices, including coding standards, CI/CD, observability, and security compliance.
-
Be hands-on when required — contribute to code, review critical modules, and troubleshoot complex production issues.
-
Ensure high availability, scalability, and data integrity, embedding performance and security into every design decision.
-
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, QA, DevOps, and Customer Success teams to align technical delivery with business priorities.
-
Drive team recruitment and development, conducting technical interviews and building a strong engineering culture.
What You’ll Bring
-
12+ years of overall software engineering experience, with 4–5 years of hands-on Ruby on Rails (RoR) backend development.
-
Proven experience in building and scaling distributed, event-driven systems handling high transaction volumes.
-
Strong Angular experience, leading teams that deliver rich, responsive web applications.
-
Deep understanding of eCommerce and OMS domain concepts — order lifecycle, inventory, shipments, returns, and partner integrations.
-
Expertise in PostgreSQL/MySQL schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
-
Familiarity with RESTful APIs, webhooks, and integration patterns for external systems.
-
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and CI/CD pipelines for continuous deployment.
-
Demonstrated success as an Engineering Manager or Technical Lead, mentoring engineers and managing delivery across multiple modules.
-
Passion for building reliable, secure, and performant systems that deliver measurable business impact.
-
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
-
Strong sense of ownership, self-motivation, and growth-oriented mindset.
Nice to Have
-
Experience with microservices, asynchronous job processing, or message queues (e.g., Sidekiq, Resque, RabbitMQ).
-
Exposure to SaaS or multi-tenant architectures.
-
Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and monitoring tools (Grafana, ELK, Prometheus).
-
Understanding of API versioning, rate limiting, and data consistency patterns.
