We’re looking for an Engineering Team Lead to join our Insights team. You’ll lead a squad responsible for building and scaling the Insights layer of Nory – forecasting, planning, and decision-support systems used daily by hundreds of multi-site restaurant operators.Learn more about what we are building here.
This is primarily a leadership role focused on enabling team success. Your performance will be measured by the outcomes your team delivers: product impact, engineering quality, and the growth of the engineers you support.
You’ll set direction for the squad, coach engineers, and ensure strong execution across product and technical initiatives. While you’ll remain close to the technical work, your core responsibility is ensuring the team consistently delivers high-impact product outcomes in ambiguous, data-heavy problem spaces.
We’re stack-agnostic in our hiring and care most about strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to ramp quickly. Today, our stack includes Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, Node.js, AWS (Fargate, Aurora, SQS), Postgres, MongoDB, and Docker.
You’ll focus on helping your squad deliver meaningful product outcomes:
Lead a cross-functional engineering squad, setting direction, enabling delivery, and ensuring the team ships high-quality solutions that solve real customer problems.
Own team outcomes, ensuring your squad consistently delivers impactful work while maintaining strong engineering standards.
Develop engineers through coaching and feedback, helping them grow their technical and product capabilities.
Drive delivery discipline, ensuring the team prioritises effectively, manages scope, and lands work reliably.
Partner closely with Product, Data, and Design to shape solutions that balance statistical accuracy, system complexity, and a simple, intuitive user experience.
Stay close to the technical work, guiding architecture, reviewing code, and helping unblock engineers when needed.
Foster a healthy, high-performing team culture with clear expectations, strong communication, and accountability.
In your first 6 months, you will:
Improve how the team delivers (speed, predictability, quality)
Ship data-driven product improvements that influence customer decisions
Raise engineering standards across architecture, experimentation, and delivery
Strengthen collaboration between Engineering, Product, and Data
Engineering leadership: You’ve led an engineering squad and take accountability for team outcomes, team health, and delivery. You understand that success is measured by what the team achieves collectively.
Coaching and people development: You run structured 1:1s, give clear feedback, and help engineers grow their technical and product capabilities.
Product-focused delivery: You’ve delivered meaningful initiatives within a cross-functional squad (Engineering, Product, Design, Data), producing measurable customer or commercial outcomes.
Strong product judgement: You work closely with Product to shape scope, make pragmatic trade-offs, and keep the team focused on impact rather than output.
Technical credibility: You’re an experienced engineer who can guide architectural decisions, review work, and help unblock the team when needed.
Systems thinking: You reason clearly about scale, reliability, data flow, and long-term maintainability as the product grows.
Clear communication: You bring structure to complex discussions and build alignment across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
Nice to have
Experience building B2B products used by large customer bases with significant data or operational complexity.
Experience working on analytics or forecasting-driven products where reliability, trust, and data accuracy are critical.
