Mariana Minerals is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Lab Supervisor to lead our Process Department laboratory team in Moab, Utah. This role is critical to maintaining the highest standards in Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA), ensuring accurate, reliable results, and fostering a culture of safety, precision, and continuous improvement.
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 5+ laboratory technicians.
Oversee and maintain QA/QC programs, including Thompson-Howarth statistical analysis for precision and outlier action planning.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain advanced analytical equipment such as Thermo Optical Emission Spectrometers, Atomic Absorption instruments, centrifuges, titrators, and pH meters.
Supervise sample preparation (including blast hole samples, crushing/pulverizing, and copper cathode melting at 1600°C).
Maintain robust documentation, databases, and Excel worksheets for laboratory data and procedures.
Coordinate external laboratory “Round Robin” testing programs.
Ensure compliance with company policies, MSHA standards, and all applicable safety procedures.
Maintain adequate inventory of consumables and laboratory supplies.
Bachelor’s degree in an applied science (graduate degree preferred).
2+ years of experience in a QA/QC laboratory environment.
Previous supervisory experience in a scientific or analytical laboratory.
Expertise in Thermo OES operation/calibration and atomic absorption method development.
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Access & Excel required) and proficiency in Visual Basic programming.
Advanced knowledge of inorganic chemistry, including mass balance equations.
Reverse osmosis water purification system operation.
Performing chemical titrations and precision analytical methods.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high accuracy.
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills to build a positive team culture.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repetitively, stoop, and climb.
Standing for extended periods (10-hour shifts).
Manual dexterity for fine and gross motor skills in repetitive laboratory procedures.
