Job Overview
We are looking for a DevOps Leader with security experience to lead our passionate DevOps team ensuring the smooth operation and security of the VRChat infrastructure. In this role you’ll be accountable for the uptime, security, proper operation and cost effectiveness of our infrastructure supporting millions of active users and petabytes of UGC content.

The role reports to the VP of Engineering at VRChat. This Engineering leader will work closely with the IT and Development teams, as well as the heads of various functions to plan and deploy infrastructure.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead a small, thriving team of DevOps EngineersFoster direct communication with several other closely-related teams such as IT, Server Engineers, Client Security, User Support, and Community TeamDesign, plan and implementation of IT infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment to support the evolution of our platformHands-on day to day operation and maintenance of our infrastructure to keep our services running with high reliability, security and cost effectivenessIncident management and root cause analysis, sometimes during off hoursEnsure the implementation and maintenance of robust security controls and practicesAutomate and improve our monitoring systems and toolsCoordination and communication within the team and with internal stakeholdersWork with external vendors to resolve issues and coordinate projects
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience (8+ years) in a DevOps leadership role, within a high-growth consumer-facing company, preferably in a fast-paced startup environmentExperience with hybrid cloud environments and infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Terragrunt, OpenTofu, and octoDNSExperience with highly reliable networking and tools such as Wireguard and TailscaleExperience designing, building and maintaining high available and reliable network infrastructureExperience maintaining DDoS protection and intrusion detection and prevention systems from different vendors, such as Cloudflare and AWS CloudFront/AWS Shield/AWS WAFExperience with content delivery networks (CDNs)Knowledge of setup, configuration and operation of clustered data stores such as MongoDB, Redis/Valkey and MySQLExperience participating in proactive system hardening, engaging in technical security audits, and threat-hunting across multiple interconnected systemsExperience in rapidly responding to and mitigating operational & security incidents, including coordinating with internal security, legal, and public relations teamsStrong knowledge of REST web applications, API endpoint security and scripting knowledge, including Golang and Node.jsExperience with realtime multiplayer game engines, Photon or other real-time networking, MMORPG or C# application security is desirableFamiliarity with common Cybersecurity and Information Technology frameworks and standards such as MITRE ATT&CK, COBIT, and ITILKnowledge of ISO27001/27002, SOC2, IG2 certifications and standardsPreferably expertise in building security infrastructure that conforms to FTC guidance and international privacy laws such as the GDPRExceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate and evangelize concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
