The role
We are seeking a Lead Test Automation Engineer (Contract) to drive quality assurance within a complex, large-scale ecommerce environment. You will be working intimately with backend .NET architectures and modern API layers, ensuring the reliability of critical business platforms.
This is a hands-on technical lead role. You will be responsible for structuring complex test data, managing pipelines, and utilising modern testing frameworks to validate .NET APIs. You will also navigate the nuances between REST and GraphQL implementation within a federated architecture.
This is an initial 3-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension. The role is based in Auckland and requires you to be available to work from the client office 3 days a week.
The experience we’re looking for:
Essential
● Strong C# testing experience is the core requirement for this role.
● Technical proficiency with .NET: Deep familiarity with typical .NET API project structures.
● Modern Testing Frameworks: Demonstrated ability to put together tests using WebApplicationFactory and/or TestContainers.
● CI/CD Pipeline mastery: Ability to understand and write Azure DevOps pipeline templates.
● Test Data Management: Proven ability to build and structure fake data for complex testing scenarios.
Highly Beneficial
● Ecommerce Domain Knowledge: Experience working with large-scale retail or ecommerce platforms.
● GraphQL & Apollo: Understanding how GraphQL differs from REST and how the Apollo Federation works.
● CommerceTools: Familiarity with the CommerceTools platform.
● AI-Assisted Development: Experience leveraging tools like Copilot to increase coding speed and efficiency.
What you’ll be doing:
● Leading the automation strategy for .NET-based APIs in a high-volume environment. ● Writing and maintaining robust integration tests using WebApplicationFactory and TestContainers.
● Configuring and optimising Azure DevOps pipelines to ensure efficient delivery.
● Debugging systems under test to identify root causes of failures.
● Strategising and generating synthetic test data to validate complex business logic.
● Collaborating with the team to implement best practices in a GraphQL/Apollo Federation environment.
