Position Summary:
Responsible for the design and delivery of high quality, cost-effective Delta-Q products, the Mechanical Engineer will provide innovative solutions in the development of those products to meet reliability, performance, cost, and delivery targets. Responsibilities include development of initial concepts including packaging of connectors and hardware components, sealing strategy, evaluating thermal performance, incorporating DFM requirements and keeping scalability and future proofing in mind.
This position is full time, temporary contract for 15 months.
Specific Duties:
- Initiates and develops mechanical design concepts for power electronics products to meet defined environmental and customer/internal requirements.
- Uses analysis and /or simulation, including SolidWorks Simulation (stress and thermal analysis) and Flow Simulation to evaluate design options to maximize thermal performance, mechanical stress/fatigue reliability and meet regulatory criteria.
- Performs detailed design of mechanical enclosures, sub-components and wiring harnesses evolving them into a prototype or production ready product.
- Performs feasibility studies, cost analyses and simulations as required to assess the technical and economic viability of the concepts.
- Considers DFM in all areas with a view to creating a high volume, high yield product while maintaining reliability.
- Uses SolidWorks to prepare 3D models and component drawings while adhering to precedent and recognized methods.
- Collaborates with designers, engineers, and other departments in all areas where function/performance interacts, or assembly is concerned.
- Creates tolerance stacks to determine the product can be assembled and will perform as intended when produced in high volume with all variations considered.
- Liaises with suppliers and customers to work through design issues.
- Helps build prototypes and critiques the design from a robustness or DFM standpoint.
- Creates test procedures for specific mechanical requirements and is involved in failure analysis of field returns.
- Responsible for creation and maintenance of mechanical DFMEA.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Relevant education in Mechanical Engineering, and 8+ years of relevant design experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably in a high-volume manufacturing environment).
- Knowledge of engineering principles in Statics and Strength of Materials. Knowledge of Heat Transfer and Thermal Dynamics an asset.
- Must be experienced in using advanced CAD techniques with SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks PDM including component modeling and detailed drawings. Use of Ansys Mechanical & CFD an advantage.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Practices a team-based approach to product development
- Familiar with GD&T drawing practices.
- Knowledge of die-casting, metal forming and injection molding processes and their requirements.
- Knowledge of enclosure materials used in the electronics industry and their advantages and drawbacks.
- Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes and the associated requirements / constraints put on design.
- Knowledge of automotive environmental testing and the associated design requirements.
- Familiarity designing and testing to meet IP6x Ingress Protection ratings.
- Good problem-solving skills and being able to think critically through concepts quickly in the initial concept stage.

Benefits
Base Salary: $103,000 - $125,000 per year plus bonus.
The compensation offered will be determined by experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skills.
