St. Luke’s School, a secular (non-religious), college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12, seeks a Middle School English Teacher to teach primarily 6th grade English.
The Middle School English Department is asking questions common to middle school teachers everywhere: how do we support the development of essential reading skills and inspire a love of reading that will grow with our students? How do we nurture young writers in order to ensure both mastery of forms and the development of an authentic writing voice? How do we help students thoughtfully explore and affirm their own and their peers’ individual identities at a developmental stage where the drive to “fit in” is deeply-seated? Determined to explore these questions in partnership with our students, we are looking for a highly collaborative colleague who revels in the discussion, is as engaged by the questions as by the answers, and brings expertise to share in using project-based learning and culturally responsive pedagogy to help drive the process. The St. Luke’s Educator Competencies form the foundation of our professional work, and the school’s Strategic Plan provides direction.
