Head-Royce School is seeking a full-time Math teacher who is a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to join our Middle School team as a Math teacher starting in August for the 26-27 school year. We are seeking someone who can teach pre-Algebra through Geometry. Any experience teaching computer science would also be welcome. Full-time faculty members also serve as advisors in the Middle School.

The School seeks applicants who have experience in culturally responsive education and an understanding of how adolescents learn. Head-Royce teachers participate beyond the classroom as advisors and also as affinity group and club leaders. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-bias pedagogy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine joy in working with students at this specific age level.

Skills
Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning. Experience teaching math, including knowledge of middle school learners and developmentally appropriate classroom management skillsExperience teaching computer science, and or financial literacy at this developmental age. Collaborative, flexible colleague with Middle School teaching experience, with an ability to teach the full range of learners from grades 6 through 8. Clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents.Demonstrated knowledge of social/emotional development and developmentally appropriate curriculum for culturally responsive teaching and learning. Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment. Experience designing lessons based in Understanding by Design (UbD). Strong organizational skills.Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or a related field.2-5 years minimum teaching experience.Demonstrated desire to teach in the Middle School.Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience.Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice.Ability to participate in an outdoor education trip for 3-4 nights (additional stipend paid)
Additional Qualifications (preferred, not required)
Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in Mathematics, Computer Science, Science and, or, Education.Experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) when designing lessons/courses.
