Job Title: Nuclear Engineer Specialist - Foreign Nuclear Weapon (NWS 00862)
THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR
North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer’s mission. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day directions from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.
The Global Security Directorate has an immediate opening within Z Program for an expert in foreign nuclear weapon engineering and part manufacturing, foreign nuclear package weaponization into delivery vehicles, foreign nuclear weapon assembly and disassembly, and the advanced SolidWorks software skills and proven experience necessary to represent these activities and steps in significant detail for audiences with a broad range of technical backgrounds. Additional responsibilities will include mentoring new Global Security (GS) personnel in these skill sets, and presenting work to sponsors.
Essential Duties
- Provide expertise in foreign nuclear weapon engineering and part manufacturing, foreign nuclear package weaponization into delivery vehicles, foreign nuclear weapon assembly and disassembly: leverage familiarity with multiple foreign nuclear weapon program techniques, tactics, and procedures.
- Provide expertise in detailed representation of the above processes and parts using SolidWorks skills and experience as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Document findings of analysis of foreign nuclear weapon engineering using detailed graphics and descriptive supporting text.
- Work independently and take necessary initiative as a member of a small, focused inter-disciplinary team.
- Support the creation, review, finalization, and briefings of foreign nuclear weapon engineering products.
- Maintain high quality standards for tasks and deliverables under a rigorous security environment and limited budgets.
- Maintain required security and discretion in classified environments.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- At least ten years of firsthand experience documenting and evaluating foreign nuclear weapon engineering approaches.
- Extensive firsthand experience interacting with sponsors and stakeholders.
- Extensive and demonstrated firsthand experience safely processing and handling information protected in a range of programs and security guidelines.
- Experience working in a role that requires interagency collaboration with various federal partners in the nuclear weapon mission space.
- Experience rendering in SolidWorks, manufacturing, assembling, and dissembling detailed models.
- Firsthand experience training sponsors and stakeholders using the above models.
- Knowledge and experience explaining complex technical concepts to non-expert audiences, both verbally and in writing.
- A US citizen with an active DOE Q clearance and SCI and special program access.
Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.
Pre-employment drug test: External applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a post offer, pre-employment drug test.
Anticipated Government Clearance: Active DOE Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). The selected applicants will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
