Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled NVH CAE Engineer to join a cross-functional vehicle development team in Newark, CA. In this role, you will own the full NVH simulation and analysis workflow — from model build through post-processing — and work side-by-side with design and systems engineers to drive vehicle attribute decisions. You will be equally comfortable in front of a CAE workstation and on the test floor, as hands-on NVH testing is a core part of the job.
Key Responsibilities
CAE Modeling & Analysis
- Build, validate, and maintain FE models for NVH analysis including body structure, closures, chassis, and interior trim.
- Perform frequency response, modal, and acoustic analyses using industry-standard solvers (e.g., Nastran, Abaqus, Actran, or equivalent).
- Execute pre- and post-processing workflows using tools such as HyperMesh, ANSA, HyperView, or similar.
- Conduct transfer path analysis (TPA) and panel contribution analysis to identify dominant NVH paths and guide design decisions.
- Develop and refine acoustic models for interior cavity, material trim, and SEA-based analyses.
- Simulate road noise, wind noise, and structural-borne vibration behavior across vehicle speed and frequency ranges.
Design Collaboration & Attribute Ownership
- Collaborate directly with body, chassis, closures, and interior designers to provide NVH guidance and design direction during development phases.
- Translate NVH simulation results into actionable design recommendations; communicate trade-offs and risk clearly across teams.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to design for NVH targets including stiffness, damping, and sealing requirements.
- Define, track, and report on NVH attribute targets throughout the vehicle program.
Hands-On NVH Testing
- Plan and execute NVH measurement campaigns including vehicle-level subjective and objective evaluations.
- Set up and operate instrumentation for vibration and acoustic data acquisition (accelerometers, microphones, LMS/Simcenter, or equivalent DAQ systems).
- Perform root cause analysis using test data and correlate with simulation results to validate and improve models.
- Support dynamic testing events including road load data acquisition (RLDA) and durability or refinement drives.
- Coordinate with test facility personnel and manage test schedules to meet program milestones.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare and present NVH analysis reports, test results, and attribute status updates to engineering leadership.
- Maintain organized CAE model libraries and test data repositories in accordance with program standards.
- Support correlation studies between CAE predictions and physical test results.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in NVH CAE in the automotive industry.
- Proficiency in FE pre-processing tools (HyperMesh, ANSA, or equivalent) and solvers (Nastran, Abaqus, OptiStruct, or equivalent).
- Experience with NVH-specific post-processing and analysis tools (HyperView, nCode, Simcenter, LMS Test.Lab, or equivalent).
- Demonstrated hands-on NVH testing experience including data acquisition, instrumentation setup, and results interpretation.
- Strong understanding of structural dynamics, acoustics, and vibration fundamentals.
- Experience covering body/closures NVH, road noise, wind noise, interior acoustic refinement, and/or HVAC/ancillary NVH.
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to cross-functional teams including design, systems, and program management.
Salary Range: $110,000-$125,000/K
