Obstetrics and Gynecology Nurse Practitioner
Position Summary
The Obstetrics and Gynecology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced practice nursing care to women across the lifespan, focusing on preventive care, obstetric and gynecologic services, and management of acute and chronic women’s health conditions. This role functions collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive women’s health care, including gynecologic and obstetric services
- Conduct patient histories, physical examinations, and health assessments
- Manage routine and complex gynecologic conditions within scope of practice
- Provide prenatal, postpartum, and family planning care as applicable
- Perform office-based procedures within scope of practice
- Prescribe medications and manage treatment plans in accordance with licensure
- Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests and results
- Educate patients on reproductive health, wellness, and preventive care
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary services
- Coordinate care transitions and referrals to specialists as needed
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Practice Setting
- Outpatient women’s health clinic and/or inpatient hospital setting
- May include labor and delivery, postpartum, or gynecologic services depending on practice model
- Schedule and coverage vary based on clinical needs
Patient Population
- Female patients across the reproductive and post-reproductive lifespan
- Obstetric and gynecologic patients with acute and chronic conditions
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing
- Graduate of an accredited Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) or related NP program
- National board certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (or equivalent)
- Eligible for unrestricted nurse practitioner licensure in the practicing state
- DEA registration or eligibility
