The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager – Platform Core & Security to lead and evolve our Core/Security Platform engineering function while strengthening our security posture across the ESW cloud ecosystem.
This role combines deep platform engineering leadership with security ownership. You will be responsible for driving the technical direction, reliability, and scalability of our Core Platform (built on .NET, Azure, Kafka, AKS, Cosmos DB), while embedding security-by-design principles across the entire SDLC.
You will lead a team of senior engineers across Platform Core and Security, ensuring our systems are secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with business priorities.
Responsibilities
Lead and scale the Core/Security Platform engineering team.
Define and evolve the technical roadmap for:
.NET-based services running on AKS.
Event-driven architectures powered by Kafka.
Shared deployment foundations (Helm charts, containers, base images).
Data models leveraging Cosmos DB.
Ensure platform capabilities enable product teams to deliver efficiently and safely.
Balance long-term architectural health with short-term delivery needs.
Security Strategy & Engineering
Lead the Security engineering function within Platform.
Embed security-by-design across architecture, CI/CD, and runtime environments.
Oversee cloud security posture across Azure (primary), AWS, and GCP.
Define and enforce best practices for:
IAM and least privilege models.
Secrets management and encryption.
Secure container and image management.
Vulnerability management and patching.
Secure SDLC practices.
Partner with compliance and governance teams to meet regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, PCI, etc.).
Architecture & Technical Governance
Drive architectural consistency across microservices, APIs, and event-driven systems.
Lead design reviews and establish engineering guardrails.
Reduce platform complexity and technical debt.
Sponsor strategic technical initiatives (modernization, migrations, refactoring).
Ensure secure and scalable patterns are adopted across teams.
Reliability & Operational Excellence
Ensure platform services are observable and resilient.
Oversee incident management for core platform components.
Drive root cause analysis and systemic improvements.
Define SLAs/SLOs in partnership with SRE and DevOps teams.
Support high-traffic eCommerce events with strong operational readiness.
Team Leadership & Culture
Build and mentor a high-performing team of senior engineers.
Develop technical leaders within Platform Core and Security.
Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Improve cross-team collaboration between Platform, Product, DevOps, and Security.
Represent Platform Core & Security in senior engineering forums.
Requirements
10+ years of experience in backend, platform, or cloud engineering.
5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
Proven experience operating and scaling cloud-native platforms.
Experience leading security initiatives in cloud environments.
Strong background in .NET backend systems.
Deep experience with Microsoft Azure (AKS, Cosmos DB, Azure Monitor).
Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures.
Strong understanding of containers, Kubernetes, Helm, and CI/CD.
Solid knowledge of cloud security best practices.
Experience with IAM, network security, encryption, and vulnerability management.
Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles.
