This attorney will play a vital role in pushing forward the company’s vision for a comprehensive privacy function and supporting the evolution of the global privacy program. The role will work cross-functionally with Legal, Trust, Engineering, Product, Marketing, Compliance, and Communication teams. This role reports to the Director of Privacy.
This role is based in the Bay Area, with the expectation that the attorney will come into the company’s San Francisco or Mountain View headquarters one or two days per week, primarily for collaboration and relationship building. The company offers incentives for employees who choose to work in-office two or more days per week.
Responsibilities Include:
Advise product, engineering, security, and business teams on data privacy, security, and compliance requirements across the product lifecycleProvide practical and actionable legal guidance regarding obligations under global privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other U.S. state and international regulationsSupport and participate in privacy impact assessments and proactively identify potential privacy risksAssist with the development, maintenance, and updating of internal privacy policies, guidelines, and compliance frameworksMonitor evolving privacy laws, regulations, and enforcement trends and help translate requirements into actionable guidanceRespond to customer privacy inquiries and data subject requests in partnership with Security, Support, and other internal teamsDraft, review, and negotiate privacy-related provisions in customer, vendor, and partner agreements, including data processing agreementsHelp design and deliver privacy and data protection training for internal stakeholdersSupport cross-functional technical privacy initiatives, including data retention, deletion, anonymization, and related compliance effortsAssist with privacy-related aspects of M&A and integration activitiesAdvise on and support implementation of the AI governance programTrack industry best practices related to privacy in SaaS, AI, and cloud-based technologies
The Ideal Candidate:
JD from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar4–6+ years of relevant privacy counseling experience, ideally within a technology company, B2B SaaS environment, or top law firmSolid working knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws and frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA)Experience supporting B2C and/or B2B SaaS products; familiarity with AI and cloud technologies is a plusExperience partnering with Product, Engineering, Security, and business teams in a fast-paced environmentStrong drafting, communication, and issue-spotting skills, with the ability to provide practical guidanceCIPP or other privacy certification is a plusExperience with industry-specific privacy regulations (COPPA, FERPA, BIPA, CUBI, HIPAA, AADC)Demonstrated ability to translate complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, actionable recommendationsComfortable managing multiple priorities with increasing independence in a high-growth settingA collaborative, pragmatic mindsetHistory of developing a culture of getting to “yes, if…)
The expected base salary range for this position is $225,000 - $270,000 plus equity. Final compensation will be based on a number of factors including years of relevant experience and geographic location. Solutus Legal has been selected as the exclusive representative on this search.
