EnerMech is seeking a Project Controller to join our Finance team and support the financial management and performance of key projects. In this role, you will work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to ensure strong financial oversight, accurate forecasting, and effective working capital management throughout the project lifecycle.
This position plays a critical role in safeguarding project profitability, improving cash flow performance, and delivering financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
Project Controller Job Description:
- Partner with Project Managers to maintain financial control across assigned projects, ensuring the delivery and improvement of forecast Gross Profit (GP) and cash flow performance.
- Monitor and manage project working capital, including accrued income, accounts receivable, WIP, GRNI, and accounts payable.
- Support the preparation and validation of project financial baselines and forecasts, including EAC (Estimate at Completion) and ETC (Estimate to Complete).
- Analyse financial performance against budget and forecast, identify variances, and determine root causes with actionable insights.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to review key contractual terms, commercial assumptions, and financial constraints prior to project mobilisation.
- Validate revenue and cost baselines and ensure any variance between “As Bid” and “As Mobilised” forecasts receives appropriate approval.
- Support project resource planning, including internal and external labour requirements.
- Ensure accurate setup of sales orders, job codes, and WBS structures within the ERP system (Navision).
- Ensure timesheets, expenses, purchase orders, and supplier invoices are accurately recorded and aligned with project budgets.
- Review and approve project costs in accordance with financial forecasts and group policy.
- Monitor commitments, accruals, contingencies, and financial reserves across the project lifecycle.
- Work closely with invoicing teams to ensure timely and accurate billing aligned with contractual milestones.
- Support the monthly close process by reviewing cost accruals, analysing timesheet reporting, and validating supplier invoice reporting.
- Manage revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS15, ensuring accurate recording of income and project financial performance.
- Prepare project financial performance reports, including GP analysis, KPI tracking, and balance sheet movements.
- Present financial insights and commentary to Finance Leadership and operational stakeholders.
- Identify project financial risks and opportunities, supporting mitigation planning and financial forecasting.
- Support change order assessments and evaluate their financial impact on project profitability.
- Provide financial insight to assist leadership with decision-making and project performance improvements.
- Support collections efforts by partnering with internal teams to resolve disputes and manage outstanding receivables.
- Maintain accurate project financial documentation to support audits, contractual obligations, and financial governance requirements.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors for project-related financial reviews.
- Ensure adherence to company financial policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of accounting or finance experience within a project-based environment
- Experience supporting long-term contracts or project financial management
- Professional accounting qualification or equivalent (e.g., CA, CIMA, or similar)
- Experience working with ERP systems and integrated financial platforms
- Strong Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills
- Exposure to fast-paced operational or transformation environments
