Project Manager – Data Governance
Job description:
As a member of our data governance team, you will contribute to the implementation, coordination, and continuous evolution of data governance initiatives within DG R&I. You will work across stakeholders, support the definition of policies and procedures, and ensure high‑quality delivery in alignment with the organisation’s digital transformation strategy.
Responsabilities:
- Establishing and executing the data governance implementation roadmap for DG R&I.
- Driving the implementation of data cataloguing, metadata management, and data lineage for existing and newly acquired data assets.
- Defining roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensuring clear accountability for information asset stewardship.
- Interacting with business analysts, users, project leaders, and developers to support governance adoption.
- Contributing to the definition and coordination of corporate‑level data governance.
- Supporting the integration of different information systems and contributing to risk‑aware data processes.
- Assisting with architectural documentation, analysis, and data‑related decision‑making.
- Participating in technical meetings and providing high‑quality reporting.
- Reviewing existing system architectures and supporting the evolution of data solutions.
Technical skills:
Expertise
- Strong knowledge of project management standards and methodologies (Project Scheduling, Strategic Planning, Budgeting, Performance Tracking).
- Excellent capability to write clear and structured technical documentation.
- Good knowledge of data and reporting applications.
- Ability to deliver business and technical presentations.
- Ability to apply high‑quality standards and adapt to fast‑changing technologies in data governance and data management.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Solid analysis and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Knowledge of data governance principles (experience within the European Commission is a strong asset).
- Familiarity with data catalogue products such as Atlan, DataHub, Precisely, Microsoft Purview, or Collibra (strong asset).
- Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, and SharePoint (asset).
- Knowledge of EU funding grant management processes (asset)
Optional Expertise
- Experience with data‑related projects (Data Governance, Data Warehousing, Reporting, Data Migration, Data Acquisition, etc.).
- Additional familiarity with enterprise data architectures or metadata standards.
- Experience participating in large, multicultural organisations.
Tools & Methodologies Used in the Unit
- Methodologies: Project management frameworks, Agile collaboration, corporate data governance procedures.
- Tools: JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint, data catalogue tools, and standard collaboration platforms used internally at the European Commission.
Profile
- Bachelor’s level education (EQF level 6) or higher.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Project Management.
- Minimum 1 year of experience on data‑related projects.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to address complex data topics.
- Capacity to integrate into international/multicultural environments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to participate in multilingual meetings.
- Fluency in English (C1/C2); discretion and integrity are essential due to the handling of sensitive and confidential data.
