Position Summary
The Regional Accounting Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for the overall financial management and strategic direction of Upchurch/Weldon. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this role entails leading the accounting and finance department, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing insightful financial guidance to support business objectives. This role will oversee the accounting team, manage the monthly close process, and collaborate cross-functionally to support business initiatives and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in accounting, financial analysis, and management, particularly within the construction or mechanical contracting industry.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Leadership:
Provide strategic financial leadership to the executive team and department heads.
Collaborate with the Corporate Controller and other senior leaders to formulate and execute financial strategies aligned with company goals.
Deliver comprehensive financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and analyses to inform decision-making processes.
2. Financial Operations:
Oversee the daily financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and job costing.
Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, adhering to accounting standards and regulations.
Manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to optimize financial stability and growth.
Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting deliverables.
3. Financial Planning and Analysis:
Conduct in-depth financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting to guide strategic initiatives and long-term planning.
Assess the financial impact of various projects, investments, and business decisions.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and process improvement.
4. Team Leadership and Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting and finance team.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professionalism.
Ensure staff members receive proper training and remain current on industry best practices.
5. Compliance and Risk Management:
Maintain compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and industry standards.
Maintain and enforce internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Establish and enforce internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
Coordinate financial audits and address audit findings in a timely manner.
Manages Construction Work In Progress (CWIP) accounting, ensuring accurate tracking and revenue recognition.
6. Vendor and Contract Management:
Manage relationships with financial partners, such as banks, auditors, and insurance providers.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
A minimum of 8+ years of senior-level accounting and financial management experience in the construction or mechanical contracting industry.
Profound knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, US GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in financial software and tools, including Sage.
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Experience in a mid-size to large corporate environment or public accounting firm (preferred).
Prior experience with process automation or system implementations.
