Registered Nurse - Allergy Clinic

In this part-time role, you will be responsible for caring for Allergy and Immunology patients in a ward setting. You will be part of the Paediatric team, report to the Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager and work under the supervision of our Allergy/Immunology Doctors. Your duties would include oral food and drug challenges, allergy desensitisation/immunotherapy, skin prick testing, spirometry, asthma and anaphylaxis education. 

During times where the clinic isn’t functioning you will also be expected work within the acute paediatric ward caring for medical and surgical patients from 28 days to 18 years.

You will make an impact by:

  • Working cooperatively and collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Practicing in accordance with child safety standards
  • Practice in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) national Competency standards for Registered Nurses
  • Utilising a reflective, critical thinking and evidence-based approach to the clinical care of patients
  • Demonstrate empathy and compassion to patients and their families, colleagues and VMOs. Respect and uphold the dignity and rights of consumers, relatives, carers and colleagues.

To be successful in this role…

You will have excellent patient assessment, time management skills and have great clinical judgement. A confident communicator, you will have a positive and warm personality and a passion in working with both children and their families

You will have:

  • Recent experience within an acute Paediatric clinic/ward (Minimum of 2 years clinical experience)
  • Experience in intradermal testing/IDT, Skin Prick Testing (desirable) 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively as part of a team and to liaise confidently and courteously with people at all levels 
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and effective problem-solving skills
  • A commitment to patient experience and outcomes

Qualifications

  • Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
  • Valid Victorian Employee Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Post graduate Paediatric qualification (desirable)
