The Senior Accountant oversees payroll accounting, benefits accounting, and core general ledger responsibilities while supporting month-end close and financial reporting process. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, experience with multi-state payroll, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening internal controls, supporting audit readiness, and driving process improvements across payroll and accounting workflows.
Payroll & Benefits Accounting
Own end-to-end payroll accounting for multi-state payroll, including salary, commissions,bonuses, and related accrualsPartner with HR and process payroll in coordination with ADP; ensure accuracy and compliancePrepare and post payroll journal entries and allocationsReconcile payroll tax liabilities and benefit payable accounts on a monthly basisOversee timely payroll tax filings and proactively resolve agency noticesOwn year-end payroll reporting, including W-2s, 941s, and state filingsEnsure payroll-related internal controls are designed and operating effectively
Reconciliations & Close Support
Own assigned areas of the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, and reconciliationsInvestigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely mannerAnalyze expense trends and provide variance explanationsEscalate issues that could impact payroll accuracy or close deadlinesPrepare bank statement reconciliations and resolve discrepanciesEnsure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policiesSupport Accounts Payable operations and review of journal entries during month-end closeEscalate complex, non-routine, or technical accounting matters to senior accounting leadership as appropriate
Audit & Compliance
Prepare audit support for assigned GL accountsMaintain thorough documentation supporting financial statement balancesSupport external audit, tax, and regulatory inquiriesIdentify, recommend, and implement process improvements across payroll and accounting workflowsDevelop, document, and maintain accounting procedures
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting3+ years of progressive experience within an accounting and finance function (public accounting experience a plus)Strong Excel skillsExperience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred)Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controlsExcellent attention to detail and ability to manage and meet multiple deadlinesExperience with multi-state payroll and payroll tax compliance preferredAbility to operate independently and manage core accounting processes with minimal oversight
