Summary
WaterEquity is seeking a Senior Associate to join the Finance team. This role is best suited for a professional who pairs technical accounting excellence with operational rigor and sound judgment.
The ideal candidate demonstrates attention to detail, deep systems fluency, and a track record of improving processes through thoughtful design and automation. This is not a task-execution role; the Senior Associate will materially contribute to elevating accuracy, scalability, and reliability across the accounting function.

Key Responsibilities
Execution & Ownership
- Own and execute critical components of the monthly financial close with a strong emphasis on precision, timeliness, accountability, and internal controls.
- Prepare, review, and maintain high‑quality account reconciliations, ensuring balances are fully substantiated, well‑documented, and audit‑ready.
- Identify issues proactively, investigate their root causes, and resolve discrepancies with minimal supervision.
- Collaborate closely with Investments, Investor Relations, and Operations teams.
Fund Accounting for Debt & Private Equity Vehicles
- Support fund accounting activities for private equity and impact investment vehicles, including investment activity, capital movements, and fund-level reporting.
- Assist in tracking and reconciling capital calls, distributions, management fees, and related activity with a high degree of accuracy.
- Partner with fund administrators and internal stakeholders to ensure clean, consistent, and timely reporting
Systems Excellence & Data Integrity
- Serve as a power user across core financial systems by contributing to system enhancements, implementations, and integrations.
- Leverage system capabilities to improve reporting quality, reduce manual work, and support better decision‑making.
Audit & Tax Preparation
- Act as a key contributor during audits and tax preparation, preparing clear support schedules and responding to questions with confidence and precision.
- Ensure documentation and processes can withstand scrutiny from auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Continuously evaluate existing processes with a critical eye and a mindset of “how can this be better or simpler?”
- Design and implement automation and efficiency improvements that increase accuracy, scalability, and transparency.
- Contribute to building a finance function that is both operationally excellent and future‑ready.
Skills and Qualifications
- Educational Background: A degree in a quantitative field, such as Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or any other related discipline. A strong academic record (as demonstrated through GPA) or high achievement in relevant standardized testing (e.g., as demonstrated through GMAT, LSAT, or equivalent).
- Strong Analytical Skills: Solid foundation in reporting & analysis, data interpretation, and problem-solving.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, ideally within fund accounting, private equity, or asset management with an SEC-registered investment advisor.
- Demonstrated excellence in monthly close execution, reconciliations, and audit support.
- Advanced, hands-on experience with Intacct, Salesforce, NetSuite or comparable platforms.
- Proven ability to independently drive process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a personal commitment to producing consistently high-quality work.
- Advanced Excel skills and fluency working across large, multi-system datasets.
- Strong ownership mindset, sound judgment, and ability to operate effectively in a remote, fast-paced environment across multiple time zones.
Physical Requirements
This role involves extended periods of sitting and reaching. This role requires the ability to see, talk, and hear.
Benefits
This position offers full-time benefits, including medical/dental/vision insurance, flexible spending plans, life and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan, and periodic review for merit and incentive pay based on organizational and personal achievement. Overall compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and structured to reflect a competitive package for a full-time senior associate level team member. Expected pay range is $80,000 - $110,000. Travel required 5-10%.
