Job Role: Senior Bookkeeper
Compensation range: $2,000 AUD - $2,500 AUD / Monthly
Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who The Client Is: Trusted Melbourne Bookkeepers Specializing in XERO, MYOB & QuickBooks.
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper with strong expertise in Australian bookkeeping and compliance requirements. This role supports multiple clients within a professional accounting environment, ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with Australian tax regulations, and delivery of high-quality financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-driven, client-focused, and confident working in a fast-paced, multi-client setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Bookkeeping & Financial Management
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple Australian clients across various industries
- Maintain general ledgers, bank reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Process accounts payable and receivable, payroll support, and expense management
- Prepare and review BAS, IAS, and other compliance-related reports (as applicable)
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial data
Compliance & Regulatory Support
- Maintain compliance with Australian tax and statutory requirements
- Assist with audit preparation and documentation
- Liaise with accountants and client stakeholders regarding financial matters
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records
Systems & Process Management
- Utilize Xero for bookkeeping and reporting functions
- Maintain organized financial documentation and digital records
- Support process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Participate in practical system assessments when required
Client & Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams in English
- Provide clear financial updates and respond to client queries
- Collaborate via Microsoft Teams and Zoom for meetings and coordination
- Manage workload across multiple client engagement
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional bookkeeping experience
- Demonstrated experience in Australian bookkeeping and compliance
- Background working in a professional accounting or bookkeeping firm (not solely in-house)
- Experience servicing multiple clients simultaneously
Strong working knowledge of Australian tax obligations and reporting standards - Proficiency in Xero (practical assessment required)
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Comfortable working remotely and collaborating via Teams and Zoom
