The role
As a Senior Data Analyst at Vector, you’ll play a pivotal role in transforming how we use data to power a smarter, more resilient energy future for Tāmaki Makaurau. You’ll join a team that is resetting, reenergising, and ready to lift capability, bringing fresh thinking, modern practices, and a genuine passion for doing things differently.
Working across high frequency energy, IoT and customer datasets, you’ll help unlock insights that improve network performance, anticipate issues before they happen, and shape better customer experiences. From enabling pre-emptive maintenance on critical assets to supporting new AI driven models, your work will directly influence how we keep the lights on for Auckland.
Importantly, this role is about owning real operational questions end to end, from shaping the problem, through investigation, to influencing action and follow through.
On a typical week you can expect to:
Take messy, real world operational questions and break them down clearly - clarifying what success looks like, what data can be trusted, and what needs to be explored next.
Deliver high quality, accurate and meaningful investigative analysis using modern data platforms including Snowflake and advanced data models, validating assumptions before findings are used to make decisions.
Work closely with teams across the business, including network, regulatory, digital, customer and field operations, to understand problems and translate them into analytical opportunities that lead to action.
Bring natural curiosity and a proactive approach to exploring new angles, methodologies and untapped insights.
Contribute to a team culture focused on learning, collaboration and continuous improvement, acting as a mentor to uplift capability across the wider analytics community.
Support innovation efforts including AI enabled models, new data integrations, and partnerships such as the work with Google X and Tapestry, with a focus on changing how decisions are made or how work is done, not just improving existing reporting.
Build intuitive dashboards and visualisation products (Power BI highly advantageous) that help nontechnical stakeholders make confident, data driven decisions.
This is a chance to make a meaningful impact, shaping the analytics foundations that underpin a cleaner, more connected future for New Zealand.
Who are we looking for?
You’re an experienced analyst who brings strong technical capability, curiosity, and the ability to turn complexity into clarity. You’re energised by real world outcomes and enjoy seeing your analysis influence decisions, not just appear in reports.
You’ll thrive in this role if you:
Bring strong SQL capability, with Python as a bonus.
Have experience developing reporting, dashboards and visualisations that drive action and engagement across diverse stakeholder groups.
Are passionate about applying analytics to real operational challenges, including situations where the problem isn’t fully defined at the start.
Enjoy structured problem solving, breaking problems down, showing your thinking, and working through ambiguity.
Enjoy working in a modern data environment with cloud based tools, evolving data models, AI opportunities and the chance to work with new technologies.
Communicate with confidence and clarity, especially with nontechnical audiences.
Are collaborative, team oriented and keen to support and mentor others as the team continues to grow.
You care about doing meaningful work that contributes to a more resilient, sustainable energy future.
