Our data science team builds and operates machine learning systems that power vehicle pricing and valuation across our marketplaces and dealer platforms. These systems influence how vehicles are priced, traded, and valued across multiple products and markets, powering products used by millions of users across our platforms.
As Senior Data Scientist, Economics, you will design, build, and evolve the machine learning systems behind these pricing and valuation capabilities. You will work on complex and often ambiguous problems, exercising strong technical judgment to translate marketplace dynamics into reliable production systems.
This is a hands-on role where you design, build, and operate machine learning, econometric, and GenAI systems that run in production and matter to the business. At the same time, you will influence technical direction, raise the bar for engineering practices, and enable other data scientists and engineers to succeed.
You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders across AutoScout24, AutoProff, LeasingMarkt, and Trader to turn marketplace challenges into scalable ML-driven products.
This role is based in Munich and is part of a global team collaborating across Europe and Canada.
What You’ll Do
- Own ML, econometric, and GenAI systems end-to-end in production — from problem framing and system design to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
- Design and implement machine learning models supporting vehicle pricing and valuation across products and markets
- Help define and evolve the group’s cross-market valuation framework for B2B, B2C, and C2B vehicle transactions
- Translate marketplace dynamics such as supply–demand patterns, vehicle attributes, and transaction data into scalable modeling approaches
- Make sound architectural and methodological decisions for ML systems on AWS, balancing robustness, observability, cost, and long-term maintainability
- Identify where GenAI techniques can enhance valuation systems, such as extracting signals from unstructured vehicle data or improving modeling workflows
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to turn ambiguous marketplace problems into ML-enabled product capabilities with clear outcomes
- Operate and evolve ML systems deployed across multiple countries and markets in Europe and Canada
- Mentor other data scientists through hands-on collaboration, design reviews, and shared ownership of systems
What you’ll bring:
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Econometrics, or a related quantitative field — or equivalent practical experience
- Several years of experience building and operating machine learning or quantitative systems in production
- Strong hands-on expertise in Python and modern ML frameworks, with the ability to ship, operate, and evolve ML systems in production
- Experience deploying and operating ML systems on AWS or comparable cloud platforms
- Solid understanding of machine learning system design, experimentation, and MLOps practices
- Experience applying GenAI techniques in applied or production contexts, with a clear understanding of trade-offs and limitations
- Strong understanding of marketplace dynamics, pricing, or valuation problems, and the ability to translate these into quantitative models
- Ability to influence technical decisions through strong judgment and collaboration, not formal authority
- Experience supporting and guiding other data scientists through technical feedback and code reviews
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for outcomes, with a pragmatic approach to trade-offs and delivery
