The Role:
Generate Biomedicines is looking for a talented Senior Research Associate to join the Protein Analytics & Biophysics team within Therapeutic Assay Sciences. This role will contribute to the execution, optimization, and implementation of analytical and biophysical workflows that assess protein quality, binding interactions, stability, and developability in support of discovery programs and Generate Biomedicines’ machine learning-powered platform. The successful candidate will work hands-on with a variety of analytical and biophysical instrumentation and collaborate closely with scientists across cross-functional groups in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
Here's how you will contribute:
- Execute fit-for-purpose analytical and biophysical assays to characterize protein quality attributes and binding interactions, including purity, aggregation, stability, heterogeneity, affinity, and kinetics
- Perform hands-on laboratory work using a range of analytical and biophysical techniques such as HPLC-based chromatography (e.g., SEC, IEX, HIC), capillary electrophoresis, DSF, DSC, DLS, and binding assays using technologies such as SPR or BLI
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical and biophysical instrumentation and automated liquid handling platforms used in protein characterization workflows
- Design and execute experiments in support of established analytical and biophysical workflows, including optimization of assay conditions and throughput
- Accurately document experimental procedures, results, and observations in accordance with laboratory and data integrity standards
- Compile, review, and summarize data to support cross-functional project teams and downstream decision-making
- Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new analytical technologies and methodologies to expand or improve existing workflows
- Provide flexible experimental support across analytical and biophysical workflows to address evolving program and platform priorities
- Support rapid experimental iteration and troubleshooting to enable efficient progression of workflows
- Collaborate closely with scientists across Therapeutic Assay Sciences and partner functions to support discovery programs, platform initiatives, and evolving assay workflows through timely experimental data generation
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- B.S./M.S. in a life science discipline with 5+ years (B.S.) or 3+ years (M.S.) of relevant research experience in an industry setting
- Hands-on experience in protein analytical and biophysical characterization, including binding and developability assessments
- Experience with high-throughput and/or automated analytical and biophysical platforms
- Ability to adapt to evolving workflows and support multiple analytical and biophysical assay platforms
- Exposure to data visualization or basic data handling tools used in analytical and biophysical workflows
- Demonstrated ability to follow complex experimental protocols and execute laboratory workflows with attention to detail
- Strong documentation and communication skills with experience maintaining accurate experimental records
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, cross-functional research environment
