Pearly is a B2B SaaS and payments company with deep product-market fit, a hyper-modern stack, and over 2,500 dental offices on the platform. We're scaling rapidly, and continuously shipping capabilities that impact millions of users.
This is a hands-on Senior Engineer role with a data focus. You'll own Pearly's data platform — architecture, infrastructure, and code — building it in production-grade TypeScript and SQL. You'll also contribute across the broader codebase (payments, workflows, CI/CD) and serve as a trusted final reviewer and mentor across the team. You will be encouraged and expected to fully leverage AI from day one and evolve with the technology as we move toward an AI-native software development lifecycle.
If you're a tenacious builder who thrives on ownership, sets the bar through your own work, and is ready to help define the playbook during the excitement of the LLM era — this is your role.
Strict TypeScript, Cloud PostgreSQL, Serverless Functions, Terraform, React, GraphQL, Docker, and GitHub Actions. Strong test coverage across unit, integration, and E2E.
Each engineer finds their own groove with the latest AI tools, including Claude Code, Cursor, MCP, and Bugbot. We stay close to the leading edge, stay realistic about what LLMs can and can't do, and keep shipping. Humans drive the specs, author collaboratively with AI, and review every layer before code hits production.
Own Pearly's data systems end-to-end: Postgres warehouse and OLTP infrastructure, ETL pipelines (bulk and real-time streaming), and data products and APIs.
Drive overall data architecture and harmonization across the platform — designing systems, abstractions, and algorithms that unify data from multiple EHRs, payment processors, and external vendors into a coherent, scalable layer.
Drive data modeling decisions with performance, observability, and operational excellence as first-class concerns.
Own vendor SDK integrations and vendor relationships on the technical side.
Ability to contribute across the full application stack (frontend/backend/db) in all application domains including payments, outreach automation, reporting, and internal tooling.
Guide human engineers and AI agents toward excellence through your own example, mentorship/documentation, and rigorous code review. You're a trusted final pair of eyes across all areas of the codebase.
Partner with Product from ideation through production release to define product specs that translate business goals into clear engineering requirements.
Own the technical spec — the guiding plan that shapes architecture, scope, and execution for every initiative. You think long-horizon, account for scale, and anticipate edge cases.
Think about AI as a system — not just personal productivity, but team-wide leverage, process, and tooling to optimize adoption and minimize friction.
Contribute to CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Terraform, and development infrastructure as needed — including speed and safety improvements to agent loops through efficient check systems, production-like sandboxes, and tools/skills/plugins.
Computer Science or similar quantitative / technical / engineering degree.
8+ years deploying to production, with direct responsibility for high-scale platforms (100M+ records across accuracy-sensitive domain like healthcare or fintech).
Deep experience building data systems (warehouses, pipelines, APIs) using general-purpose languages and SQL rather than specialized data tools/frameworks.
Extensive experience in TypeScript or a strongly typed language with command of the full modern web stack including React. You think natively in terms of type safety and test coverage.
Familiarity with a major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
Understanding of security and compliance requirements for PHI, PII, and financial data.
Based in New York, NY; Santa Barbara, CA; or Atlanta, GA.
Relentless executor: You drive projects to completion with urgency and long-horizon accountability. You handle initiatives end-to-end with input at the spec and review phases, know your blind spots, and know when to pull in the right people.
Architectural thinker: You see the patterns behind the problems — designing systems and abstractions that hold up at scale and over time. You seek out simplicity and elegance.
Revenue-aware: Reliability, accuracy, and scale aren't abstract goals — they're the product.
