About the role
This is not just another developer role - it’s an opportunity to shape the backbone of a groundbreaking AI system that is redefining how legal professionals interact with technology. You’ll be working alongside experts in AI, automation, and legal innovation, solving problems few have faced before in the Free-Thinking AI Paralegal team. Join us in building the foundation for the Global Forms Automation and the future of AI-powered productivity at CORTO.
The AI Free Thinking Paralegal Development Team is a new team within CORTO, operating at the cutting edge of AI technology. Led by the previous technology co-founder of CreditorWatch and Avenue Bank, we combine high autonomy, high flexibility, and low bureaucracy like a startup, while enjoying the peace of mind and stability that come with being part of a mature, successful organisation. Working side-by-side with an experienced technology leader (a coder and entrepreneur), you will work on a variety of interesting challenges as we build the future of AI-powered legal assistance.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a powerful impact by revolutionising how lawyers work with AI, enabling them to analyse complex legal matters, prepare accurate documents, and deliver better outcomes for their clients.
What you’ll do
We are seeking experienced and forward-thinking developers to join our team building the agentic AI. These roles are central to developing the infrastructure powering the Global Forms Automation, an intelligent coordination system that analyses forms, collects data, and fills in the forms. You’ll create advanced automation frameworks, integrate generative AI, and build scalable systems that push the limits of what AI-assisted legal technology can do.
To make this happen you will:
- Design, build, and maintain core services that consume and orchestrate AI-based integrations.
- Develop scalable, reliable, and secure systems to support automation and generative AI workflows.
- Collaborate closely with teams developing services to ensure smooth integration and performance.
- Solve complex engineering problems around AI reliability, context management, and data flow.
- Prototype and optimise AI-driven features that work within known limitations of generative models.
- Participate in architectural planning, service design, and API definition.
- Continuously improve system robustness, observability, and developer experience.
What you’ll bring:
- Over 7 years commercial experience as a developer
- Strong experience in at least two of the following:
- TypeScript/JavaScript/React
- Solid understanding of automation, system integrations, or AI-enabled workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to work with LLMs or generative AI systems - understanding their constraints, strengths, and how to build around their limitations.
- Experience designing and consuming APIs, ideally in distributed environments.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with a creative mindset for building robust, maintainable systems.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills - able to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable ideas.
You are the type of person who
- Puts the customer first. - The customer is the start, centre, and end of everything we do. Our goal is to deliver value to the customer. When in doubt, put the customer first.
- Hyperfocus on the problem. Identify the real problem. Then work out how to solve it. Don't solve around it.
- Think big. Start small. Scale fast. Repeat. You solve the biggest problems by starting, iterating, and not waiting for perfect.
- Get to a result. Until the customer gets value, the work is worthless. Ship it, learn, improve.
- Remove complexity. From the product, from the process, from the conversation. If it doesn't need to be there, strip it out.
- Be passionate. Love what you do. Do your best. If you can't bring that energy, this isn't the place.
- Want to Work with the best. Expect it of others. Expect it of yourself. Settle for neither less nor average.
- Take ownership. When there's a problem, it's your problem. If you're not the person to fix the problem, find the person who can fix it and see to it that they do. Don't walk past it.
- Make the decision. Collect the data, get the evidence, but decide. Accept you'll get some wrong. Indecision is worse.
CORTO is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential. If you meet some, but not all the requirements above, we encourage you to still submit your application.
