About the Role       

We are seeking a Staff Engineer – Cloud to provide senior technical leadership in building and operating scalable cloud platforms. This role focuses on AWS infrastructure, CI/CD platforms, cloud governance, cost optimization (FinOps), and observability, ensuring platforms are secure, reliable, compliant, and cost-efficient at scale.

What You'll Do

Cloud Architecture & Infrastructure

• Design, build, and operate highly available, secure, and scalable AWS infrastructure

• Own cloud architecture across compute, networking, storage, identity, and security

• Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or CloudFormation

• Define reference architectures, standards, and reusable infrastructure modules

AWS Governance & Compliance

• Design and enforce AWS governance frameworks using AWS Organizations and multi-account strategies

• Implement and manage Landing Zones, AWS Control Tower, SCPs, IAM guardrails, and account baselines

• Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and organizational policies

• Define tagging standards, naming conventions, and account-level controls

• Partner with security and compliance teams to maintain audit-ready cloud environments

CI/CD & Platform Engineering

• Architect and standardize CI/CD pipelines for cloud-native and microservices workloads (preferably using GitLab or GitHub)

• Embed security, compliance, and quality gates (SAST, DAST, container scanning, policy-as-code)

• Enable modern deployment strategies such as blue-green, canary, and rolling deployments

• Improve pipeline performance, reliability, and developer experience

Cloud Cost Optimization (FinOps)

• Drive AWS cost optimization and FinOps practices across platforms

• Implement cost visibility, allocation, and chargeback/showback models

• Optimize cloud spend using right-sizing, autoscaling, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and storage lifecycle policies

• Define and monitor budgets, alerts, and cost KPIs

• Promote cost-aware architecture and engineering practices

Observability & Reliability

• Design and implement end-to-end observability using metrics, logs, and distributed tracing

• Standardize monitoring, alerting, and dashboards across services

• Define and track SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets

• Improve system resilience through automation, self-healing, and proactive alerting

• Lead incident response, post-incident reviews, and continuous reliability improvements

DevOps & SRE Practices

• Promote DevOps and SRE best practices across engineering teams

• Reduce operational toil through automation and platform improvements

• Ensure systems meet availability, performance, and reliability objectives

Technical Leadership

• Act as a technical leader and mentor across teams

• Review architecture, infrastructure, and CI/CD designs

• Influence platform, governance, and cloud strategy without direct authority

• Collaborate closely with product, security, and enterprise architecture teams

What You’ll Need

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, EKS, ECS, VPC, IAM, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, Route53)

• Deep expertise in AWS governance and multi-account strategies

• Proven experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, GitHub Actions, etc.)

• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)

• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS)

• Solid understanding of cloud security, networking, and IAM

• Experience driving FinOps and cloud cost optimization

• Strong background in observability and reliability engineering

• AWS Control Tower, SCPs, AWS Config, CloudTrail, Guard Duty

• Policy-as-code tools (OPA, Sentinel, AWS Config Rules)

• Observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, Open Telemetry, ELK, Datadog)

• Service mesh, API gateways, and advanced AWS networking

• Programming or scripting skills in Python, Go, or Bash

Bonus Points

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional

• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and cloud-native AI services

• Exposure to AWS AI/ML services such as Bedrock, SageMaker, Textract, or Comprehend

Collaboration & Organization-Level Expectations

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Partner with application, platform, security, data, and SRE teams to deliver scalable cloud solutions

• Act as a trusted technical advisor across multiple engineering teams

• Collaborate with product, architecture, and compliance stakeholders to align cloud platforms with business goals

• Influence architectural and platform decisions without direct authority

• Align cloud initiatives with organizational priorities and roadmaps

• Contribute to long-term cloud strategy, including governance, cost optimization, and platform evolution

• Advocate for developer productivity and operational excellence
