Job Summary
Telecommunication engineers install, setup, monitor, test, troubleshoot, program, code, maintain, and repair and a wide variation of equipment used to support analog/digital/voice-over, internet protocol (VOIP) and emergency telephone (E911) telephone switching services.
This is a represented staff position with the IBEW Union.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Control, command and maintain telephone exchange system.
- Provide signaling, channel setup, digitization of the analog voice signals, and encoding for analog, digital, and VOIP telephones.
- Make data base changes for adds, deletes, and relocation of telephone.
- Maintain E911 emergency and dispatch systems.
- In support of work order make data base changes to servers and switching environment.
- Setup and configure switching environment.
- Upgrade and update equipment software.
- Backup system settings and configuration needed for disaster restoration
- Directly communicate technical information and problems with a variety of support vendors or by writing support tickets. Serve as technical liaison on behalf of customer in working with subcontractors and vendors.
- Troubleshoots malfunctions of network hardware and software applications and telephones including secure telephones.
- Research, analyze and resolve customer telephone service problems.
- Trouble shoot and problem solve daily customer issues.
- Monitor trunk usage in designed to handle several transmissions simultaneously and that interconnects major switching centers or nodes.
- Compile and provide telephone billing data to NASA, including trunk usage and telephone traffic reports.
- Provide, update and maintain all required documentation, reports, and logs etc., manually or in electronic databases.
- Make recommendations to improve work quality, efficiencies, and productivity.
- Adhere to OSHA, NASA, Company and customer safety requirements.
- May assist in training others.
Requirements
Required Minimum Education:
- Associate of Science*or Technical Trade School* in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field
- Experience may be substituted for Education: 1.5 years of related experience is equivalent to 1 year of formal education.
Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, Certifications, etc.:
- Advanced level, requires the ability to plan, implement, verify, and troubleshoot local and telecommunications wide-area enterprise networks and work collaboratively with specialists on advanced security and voice telephone systems.
- Typically requires highly specialized training in telecommunication networks.
- Must successfully complete and maintain company and customer certification requirements.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to pass a NASA background investigation.
- Must be able to pass an initial and random drug testing.
