Upper School History Teacher & Department Chair for the 2026-27 School Year

Indian Creek School is an independent, co-ed day school in which 600 students aged 3 to Grade 12 partner with innovative teachers in an outstanding educational program. This is a full-time (40 hours), 10-month position with occasional summer responsibilities, reporting to the Upper School Principal. 

Requirements

• Teach four sections of Upper School (Grades 9-12) History, including AP level courses.

• Use a variety of pedagogical approaches, assessments, and strategies to drive instruction in Upper School History classes.
• Provide feedback on student assignments in a timely and constructive manner.
• Maintain an online course page on the School’s LMS aligned with academic standards and expectations.
• Collaborate with History colleagues committed to building reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills while centering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Develop and deliver interdisciplinary learning experiences.
• Use a variety of assessments, such as student portfolios and project-based learning, to measure student understanding and drive instruction.
• Serve as an academic advisor to a group of students.
• Work with the Upper School principal and the Upper School team to ensure a positive and engaging Upper School experience for students.
• Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
• Attend all divisional, departmental, and school faculty meetings, including professional development days.
• Other duties as assigned by the Upper School Principal.

Department Chair Responsibilities:

• Lead Grade 6- 12 History Department by

• Facilitating departmental conversations and meetings.
• Leading departmental curriculum review, coordinating regularly and intentionally with the other department chairs to promote a cohesive 6-12 curriculum.
• Offering formal feedback to colleagues through the teacher evaluation annual process.
• Serving on the Curriculum Council as the representative of the History department.
• Representing the History department at school events such as Open Houses and Curriculum Nights as needed.

Qualifications  

• Desire to be actively engaged in the work of innovative teaching, diversity and inclusion, and ongoing professional growth. 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (Master’s preferred) 

• Demonstrated experience in teaching History and Upper School education. 

• Educational philosophy aligns with the mission and vision of Indian Creek School 

• Resilient, mission-driven, and proactive in creating a supportive learning environment for students 

• Collaborative by nature, and an effective communicator with students, teachers, administrators, and families. 

• Proficiency in technology 

• Federal and State Background Check clearance and MSDE Employment History review

Benefits and Salary Range 

Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's years of experience at an educational institution and prior administrative experience and responsibilities. Candidates will be offered a competitive salary and are exempt from overtime within the range of $58,500 - $98,520, dependent on experience.
