Your Role:
As the YouTube Long-Form Editor (Vlogs) for the @JohnnyChangLive brand, you are the chief storyteller responsible for transforming hours of raw vlog, documentary, and behind-the-scenes footage into captivating, spiritually impactful YouTube videos.
You will work directly with the Head of Content to set the quality bar for all narrative content, ensuring every video is a premium, on-brand, and emotionally resonant experience.
You are an owner. You will be responsible for the entire vlog post-production pipeline, from sifting through footage to final polish.
What You’ll Do:
Own the entire long-form vlog editing process, finding the most compelling narrative arc in hours of raw footage per video.
Lead the creative execution, music selection, B-roll integration, motion graphics, and sound design to maximize viewer engagement and emotional connection.
Constantly find new ways to level up our storytelling style, studying the best narrative creators on YouTube while maintaining our unique, mission-driven brand.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days):
Objective 1: Produce compelling YouTube videos based on the directives from the team.
Key Result:
1.) Achieve a 100% on-time delivery rate for all assigned long-form videos (approx. 1-2 videos per month) after an initial 3-week ramp-up period.
Objective 2: Measurably improve long-form content performance.
Key Results:
1.) Contribute to a percentage % increase in average view duration (AVD) on new narrative videos by the end of 90 days.
We will set the baseline together.
Example would be:
Every video hits 100k average in first 30 days of being released
Increases subsequently after that.
Objective 3: Become a self-sufficient leader of the YouTube video pipeline.
Key Result:
1.) Proactively identify and execute 1 new creative experiment a quarter (e.g., new music library, new graphic style, new storytelling format) that measurably improves a video's performance.
2.) Create high-level videos that fit the brand without needing too much oversight and direction from the team
Your Core Responsibilities (These should be A-Player outcomes, not just tasks):
Narrative Video Editing: Own the entire post-production for 1-2 complex, long-form YouTube videos per month, including sifting through all footage, building a story, multi-cam assembly, color grading, sound design, and adding all creative/graphical elements.
Creative Storytelling: Go beyond just cutting. Sift through hours of footage to find the hidden narrative, identify the most powerful moments, and structure the edit to maximize emotional impact and audience retention.
Brand & Quality Control: Act as the final guardian for all vlog content. Ensure every second of video aligns with our brand, our mission, and our high standard of technical excellence (no audio pops, no color issues, no typos).
Asset & Project Management: Meticulously organize all project files, raw footage, B-roll, music licenses, and graphic assets in our systems (ClickUp & Google Drive).
Performance Analysis: Review the performance of every video you cut. Analyze YouTube Studio retention graphs to understand what's working and what's not, and bring those insights to the next edit.
Collaborative Revisions: Work directly with the team to receive and execute feedback efficiently and with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.

Non-negotiable Requirements (Skills & Experience)
4+ years of professional experience editing narrative, vlog, or documentary-style content specifically for YouTube.
Must provide a portfolio of long-form YouTube videos that clearly demonstrates exceptional narrative storytelling, pacing, music selection, and technical skill.
Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro.
High proficiency in After Effects for motion graphics and text.
Expert-level skills in sound design and music selection to drive emotion.
Innate understanding of YouTube analytics, particularly audience retention graphs.
Must be proficient in the following:
Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop)
ClickUp (or similar PM tool like Asana/Notion)
Google Drive & G-Suite
Must have a deep knowledge of YouTube as a platform and a passion for narrative storytelling (vlogs, docu-series).
Added bonus if you are in Los Angeles. Not necessary though.
This Role Is NOT For You If:
You have never edited multiple YouTube videos that have consistently crossed 500k-1M+ views
You need lots of hand-holding & oversight.
You are not great at communicating across a remote team.
You are bad at time management.
You have never done this role before and think you can accomplish this based on “work ethic” or “similar experience”.
You prefer comfort over growth (we all work extremely hard)
Compensation:
Phase 1: Paid per delivered video (we can negotiate what that will be)
Opportunities (& bonuses) to increase based on performance.
Phase 2: Open to a monthly retainer fee if consistent success is shown within the first 60-90 days
