Overview:
Are you a passionate, motivated student seeking a meaningful, hands-on experience in the dynamic world of sports? USTA New England, the governing body of tennis in the region, is hiring three (3) driven interns for our 2026 Summer Internship Program!
We offer three distinct, exciting opportunities—each focused on a critical area of our mission. Please specify to which internship you are applying in your cover letter.
Key Internship Details (All 3 positions):
- Program Dates: Approximately 11 weeks, from June 1 to August 13, 2026.
- Schedule: Part-time, up to 28 hours per week, primarily Monday through Thursday, with occasional attendance required at weekend events.
- Compensation: $17 per hour.
- Location: Hybrid. Must be able to travel to our office in Westborough, MA one time per week (usually Wednesday) for team meetings and attend other meetings/events throughout the section.

2026 Internship Opportunities (Choose One):
Sports Marketing Internship: Dive into the operational and business aspects of recreational sports, learning how we promote and grow tennis across New England through compelling content and strategic campaigns.
What You'll Do (Unique Focus Areas):
- Marketing & Communications: Develop marketing materials, create engaging social media posts, write compelling content for multiple platforms, and curate print/story content for usta.com. Complete at least two written assignments.
- Digital Media: Hone your graphic design, photo, and video editing skills for social media platforms. Analyze social media performance and provide insights. Support content creation (reels, high-quality and relatable photos, caption writing, and posting).
- Sponsorship & Partnerships: Assist with executing sponsorship deliverables.
Recreation/Competition Internship: Play a vital role in delivering high-quality programming, supporting everything from community-level recreational tennis to competitive tournaments and coach development.
What You'll Do (Unique Focus Areas):
- Programming Support: Collaborate with Managers to support the execution and planning of summer programming, including Tennis in the Parks and Social Leagues, preparing equipment, and organizing participant data.
- Competition Support: Assist the Competition Team with junior Tournaments, player development camps and coach workshops.
- Data Collection: Complete a section-wide park facility program data project to identify areas for facility and programming growth. Manage and update contact lists for high school and college coaches.
Operations/Social Impact Internship: Support the core operational functions of the section (Finance, HR) and advance key social impact initiatives centered on access, engagement, and belonging in tennis.
What You'll Do (Unique Focus Areas):
- Strategic Support: Assist the Operations Manager with tracking expenditures, seasonal recruiting/onboarding, and conducting industry research/benchmarking.
- Social Impact: Work with the Head of Social Impact Opportunity to advance initiatives. Assist with 2026 planning, and research related to adaptive and wheelchair tennis growth.
- Data Collection/Process Improvement: Organize program data and document outcomes across inclusive programming to measure community impact. Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving departmental efficiency.
- Resource Development/Community Engagement: Help build digital platforms for NJTL chapters and Community Tennis Associations (CTAs). Organize program data to measure community impact and support the coordination of outreach to non-profit partners.
General Internship Responsibilities (Shared across all 3 positions)
- Event Support: Play a key role in organizing, coordinating, and attending events that align with our mission. Arrive on time to events & functions and complete assignments and projects by specified deadlines. Assist with conducting various audits of physical inventory stock to support programs and events. Events may include Junior Sectionals, USTA League Championships, Coach Workshops, Hall of Fame Open.
- Project Management: Collaborate with USTA New England staff from other departments on comprehensive projects, delivering proactive updates. Present on intern projects and other completed assignments during the final week of internship.
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional service to members and volunteers.

Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with preference given to upper-level students. All major areas of study welcome; Marketing, Communication or related is preferred for Marketing Internship.
- Residence within the New England Section.
- Availability for flexible hours, including evenings and weekends at events as needed.
- Interest in pursuing a career in Sports Management, Recreation Management, or similar (preferred). Note: Interest in pursuing a career in Sports Marketing/Communication preferred for the Marketing Internship.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Knowledge of tennis is a plus!

Position FAQs
- Who do these positions work with? These positions will work closely with members of the Marketing team (Marketing Internship), Community Tennis Team & Competition & Coaching Team (Recreation/Competition Internship), and Executive Team (Administration/Social Impact Internship). All three positions will also collaborate with all other teams at USTA New England.
- What does Hybrid mean for these roles? We have an office in Westborough, MA. The applicant must be able to travel to the office one time per week (Wednesdays) to meet with the team. This person may need to attend additional meetings / all-staff meetings in the Westborough, MA office and at events throughout the section.
- How much do these positions pay? These positions are seasonal and part-time (4 day work week) and pay $17 per hour.
