Job Title: Area Chief Engineer
Location: Hampton Inn – Biloxi / Ocean Springs, MS & Candlewood Suites – Hattiesburg, MS

The Area Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of physical facilities and building systems across two hotel properties. This role ensures all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems are maintained in accordance with Hampton Inn (Hilton) and Candlewood Suites (IHG) brand standards. The Area Chief Engineer leads the engineering teams at both locations, implements preventive maintenance programs, and supports operational excellence by maintaining safe, efficient, and guest-ready environments.
Oversee and participate in the maintenance and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life-safety equipment across both properties.
Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Conduct regular inspections of guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces to ensure compliance with brand standards and safety requirements.
Supervise, train, and support engineering and maintenance teams at both locations.
Assign daily work orders, manage schedules, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
Manage departmental budgets, monitor expenses, and support capital planning for both hotels.
Maintain proper inventory of tools, supplies, and replacement parts.
Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and service providers; review contracts and agreements.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, fire, and safety codes.
Oversee inspections and maintenance of fire alarm systems, sprinklers, and emergency equipment.
Ensure all team members follow safety procedures and maintain required certifications.
Respond promptly to maintenance-related guest and staff requests.
Collaborate with General Managers and department leaders at both properties to support operations.
Lead response efforts during emergencies, equipment failures, or property-related incidents.
Plan, coordinate, and oversee capital improvement projects and renovations across both hotels.
Partner with ownership and corporate teams on upgrades and long-term maintenance strategies.
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or degree preferred.
Minimum 3–5 years of engineering or maintenance experience, preferably in hospitality, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Familiarity with OSHA standards and local building codes.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to travel between properties and respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis as needed.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as climbing, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
