PURPOSE OF JOB
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused professional to join our team as an Assistant Underwriter supporting the Property and Casualty department Personal Lines business unit. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional service and support to clients with personal lines insurance policies, including auto and home coverage. You will play a key role in managing customer inquiries, processing policy changes, and ensuring a high level of client satisfaction by addressing needs efficiently and professionally.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting walk-in clients, promptly answering incoming calls, and responding to customer emails regarding personal lines insurance policies, ensuring inquiries are resolved accurately and efficiently.
- Support policy issuance and renewals by assisting in the preparation, processing, and delivery of new policies, as well as facilitating timely renewals of existing policies to maintain continuous coverage for clients.
- Review policy documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements before issuance to clients, ensuring all details are correct and clearly communicated.
- Provide client guidance on coverage options, billing inquiries, policy renewals, endorsements, and other service-related questions, helping clients make informed decisions about their insurance needs.
- Process policy changes efficiently, including adding or removing coverage, updating personal and contact information, and adjusting coverage limits, while ensuring accuracy and documentation in the system.
- Communicate complex insurance information clearly to clients, translating technical terms into understandable explanations and helping clients navigate their personal lines coverage confidently.
- Identify opportunities for additional coverage by recognizing client needs and recommending appropriate cross-selling and up-selling options that enhance protection and value.
- Maintain organized and accurate records of client interactions, policy changes, and correspondence in the company’s insurance management system to ensure data integrity and facilitate smooth workflow.
- Support departmental performance goals by contributing to the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) such as policy issuance turnaround, client satisfaction, and retention rates.
- Adapt to evolving responsibilities by performing additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility, teamwork, and a proactive approach to departmental needs.
Requirements
- Associates degree or higher; insurance-related coursework or certifications (e.g., Cert CII or equivalent) preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of customer-facing experience, ideally in insurance or a related service industry.
- Strong knowledge of insurance products, services, and personal lines coverage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality, client-focused service.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and customer management software.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and accuracy in handling policy documentation.
- Ability to explain complex insurance information in clear, understandable terms for clients.
- Demonstrated ability to identify client needs and recommend appropriate coverage options.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and adaptability to evolving responsibilities.
