NAC is currently seeking a Buyer Co-op student (8 month term) to join our Head Office Purchasing team.
Position Summary:
The Buyer is responsible for the purchasing/buying processes, including negotiation of prices and delivery of quality products/services to the project, in a timely, cost effective manner, in conformance with company policies, procedures and budgets. The incumbent provides superior customer service to projects sites and head office personnel.
Position Responsibilities:
Provide buying services to NAC projects, as requested by project staff, as well as to head office staff.Protect pricing arrangements through the issuance of purchasing agreements that extend for the project duration.Establish, build and maintain vendor relationships through the development and qualification of new subcontractors and suppliers, while maintaining and monitoring existing ones.Maintain & update database for Vendors’ information in support of NAC’s day to day buying processes.Make decisions that support cost savings, cost avoidance, and customer satisfaction within the project and site requisition timelines.Ensure proper flow of buying documentation and information.Analyze quotations thoroughly to identify and eliminate elements of risk, avoiding problems and to improve the profitability of the project.Coordinate and collaborate with the estimating and operation teams to clarify required materials, equipment and services.Issue awards and proactively study scope, identify vendors, issue RFQ’s, follow-up quotations, analyze comparisons and discuss buying opportunities with the Project Managers.Proactively search and identify new opportunities with existing vendors to maximize service for the project.Actively research and recommend alternate products and solutions that offer improved cost and time effectiveness.Negotiate agreements for products based on estimating takeoff, site input and project specifications, with the aim to achieve cost savings as per desired goal.Train new Project Coordinators to control and monitor the day to day buying, with the goal to maximize cost savings.Perform other duties as requested in support of the overall operation of the Department.
Position Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent program Must be in a registered Co-op programExperience in supply chain management is an assetExperience within the construction industry is an assetStrong analytical skillsExcellent interpersonal and relationship building skillsAbility to make sound decisionsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational skills and ability to multi-taskHigh level of customer service skills for internal and external stakeholdersStrong work ethic and high level of integrityStrong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
