Pay Rate: $45 - $47 per hr.

Position Overview

Dominion Energy is seeking a Civil Engineer II to support long‑term engineering initiatives at the North Anna Power Station, including major system upgrades and modernization efforts as part of the Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) project. This role supports the Generation business and plays a critical part in enabling safe, compliant, and efficient operations across nuclear infrastructure.

This is a 3+ year assignment, full‑time, with overtime required during outage periods. Local candidates are preferred; however, hybrid‑remote flexibility is negotiable. Per diem is available for approved non‑local candidates ($100/day or $700/week).

Work Schedule

  • 4×10s (40 hrs/week)
  • Overtime: Required during outages; one near‑term project may require 5×10s

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering theories, principles, and standards to develop and review civil and structural designs.
  • Perform engineering calculations using software such as MATLAB or Excel.
  • Design and review steel and concrete structures, including pipe supports, conduit supports, junction box supports, and foundations.
  • Support seismic analysis and component mounting design.
  • Ensure adherence to configuration management processes.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation that supports regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, regulatory, and field teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Identify design risks and propose improvements.
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality.

Top Required Technical Skills

  1. Experience designing steel and concrete structures or components (pipe supports, conduit supports, junction box supports, foundations, etc.).
  2. Familiarity with industrial standards such as ACI, ASCE, and ASME codes for lifting and rigging.
  3. Experience performing seismic analysis and design for mounting equipment and components.

Soft Skill Requirements

  • Strong collaboration and cross-disciplinary communication.
  • Adaptability and problem‑solving skills for evolving project scopes.
  • High attention to detail with strong documentation practices.
  • Initiative and ownership of engineering deliverables.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Nuclear Standard Design Process / Design Change qualification
  • Experience as a Responsible Engineer at a nuclear facility
  • Proficiency with engineering software: Mathcad, GT Strudl, STAAD, ANSYS
  • Experience with Finite Element Modeling

Project Context

The North Anna Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) project aims to extend the operational life of the plant to 80 years through major upgrades and modernization of systems, structures, and components. Engineers in this role will directly contribute to long‑term reliability, regulatory compliance, and nuclear safety through innovative and technically robust design solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 2–5 years of engineering experience
  • Nuclear industry experience preferred
  • No certifications required

Additional Position Details

  • No handling of PPI, company‑sensitive information, or credit‑sensitive information
  • No driving of company or Dominion Energy vehicles
  • Does not support federal government operations
